  • Born May 31st, 1918 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • A chemistry set he received as a present sparked
    his interest in science

  • Attended St. Augustine in Raleigh,
    NC -originally to play football
  • -science professors also noticed his work in
    the class room
  • -Bachelors Degree in 1943
  • Attended Northwestern University-1952
  • -Masters of Science

  • Lab work at Columbia University
  • Argonne National Laboratory (1946)
  • Research on nuclear reactions
  • Helped split 1st atom
  • Helped Einstein create Uranium isotopes which
    were used in fussion
  • Aided in Plutonium Project (secret)

  • Worked there for 30 years
