But GOD

Joseph
3
Genesis 3920-21 (ESV)
  • And Josephs master took him and put him into the
prison, the place where the kings prisoners were
confined, and he was there in prison. But the
LORD was with Joseph and showed him steadfast
love and gave him favor in the sight of the
    keeper of the prison.

  • We know that as the light of the sun is most
clearly seen when we are looking from a dark
place so, in the darkness of our miseries, the
grace of God shines more brightly when, beyond
    expectation, He aids us.
  • -John Calvin

5
Genesis 456-8 (ESV)
  • For the famine has been in the land these two
years, and there are yet five years in which
there will be neither plowing nor harvest. And
God (but God NIV) sent me before you to preserve
for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for
you many survivors. So it was not you who sent me
here, but God. He has made me a father to
Pharaoh, and lord of all his house and ruler over
    all the land of Egypt.

6
Genesis 5020 (ESV)
  • As for you, you meant evil against me, but God
meant it for good, to bring it about that many
people should be kept alive, as they are today.

7
Genesis 5024 (ESV)
  • And Joseph said to his brothers, "I am about to
die, but God will visit you and bring you up out
of this land to the land that he swore to
Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob."

8
Joseph
  • God is in control is sovereign
  • Gives us confident hope in the future that God
will continue to be faithful with His promises

9
Jonah
10
Jonah 11-4 (ESV)
  • Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the son of
Amittai, saying, "Arise, go to Nineveh, that
great city, and call out against it, for their
evil has come up before me." But Jonah rose to
flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.
He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to
Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went on board,
to go with them to Tarshish, away from the
presence of the LORD. But the LORD hurled a great
wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest
on the sea, so that the ship threatened to break
    up.

11
Jonah
  • Learn once again of Gods sovereignty
  • God is incredibly gracious and merciful

12
Jonah 41
  • But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was
    angry. (ESV)
  • But Jonah was greatly displeased and became
    angry. (NIV)

13
Acts 222-24 (ESV)
  • Men of Israel, hear these words Jesus of
Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with
mighty works and wonders and signs that God did
through him in your midst, as you yourselves know
this Jesus, delivered up according to the
definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you
crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.
God (But God NIV) raised him up, loosing the
pangs of death, because it was not possible for
him to be held by it.

14
Acts 1039-41 (ESV)
  • And we are witnesses of all that he did both in
the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They
put him to death by hanging him on a tree, but
God raised him on the third day and made him to
appear, not to all the people but to us who had
been chosen by God as witnesses, who ate and
drank with him after he rose from the dead.

15
Ephesians 21-3 (ESV)
  • And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in
which you once walked, following the course of
this world, following the prince of the power of
the air, the spirit that is now at work in the
sons of disobedience among whom we all once
lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out
the desires of the body and the mind, and were by
nature children of wrath, like the rest of
    mankind.

16
Ephesians 24-7 (ESV)
  • But God, being rich in mercy, because of the
great love with which he loved us, even when we
were dead in our trespasses, made us alive
together with Christ by grace you have been
saved and raised us up with him and seated us
with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
so that in the coming ages he might show the
immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness
    toward us in Christ Jesus.

17
Ephesians 28-10 (ESV)
  • For by grace you have been saved through faith.
And this is not your own doing it is the gift of
God, not a result of works, so that no one may
boast. For we are his workmanship, created in
Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared
beforehand, that we should walk in them.

18
  • These two words, in and of themselves, in a
sense contain the whole of the Gospel.
  • -D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones

19
Romans 58 (ESV)
  • but God shows his love for us in that while we
were still sinners, Christ died for us.

20
What has God done?
  • Notice in verse 1, we were dead in our sins in
verse 5, God has made us alive
  • In verse 2, we followed the course of this world
in verse 6, God has raised us up with Christ
and seated us with Him in the heavenly places
  • In verse 3, we were objects of Gods wrath in
verse 7, we are the objects of the immeasurable
riches of His grace in kindness toward us

21
Ephesians 28-10 (ESV)
  • For by grace you have been saved through faith.
And this is not your own doing it is the gift of
God, not a result of works, so that no one may
boast. For we are his workmanship, created in
Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared
beforehand, that we should walk in them.

22
Revelation 215 (ESV)
  • And he who was seated on the throne said,
"Behold, I am making all things new."

23
Revelation 225 (ESV)
  • And night will be no more. They will need no
light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be
their light, and they will reign forever and
    ever.

24
  • The only basis for any real and lasting hope
about anything is that Jesus died for our sins
on the Cross, was buried in a tomb, and was
raised from the dead on the third day,
    inaugurating the greatest restoration project
    imaginable
  • -Steven Curtis Chapman

25
Psalm 7325-28 (ESV)
  • Whom have I in heaven but you?   And there is
nothing on earth that I desire besides you.My
flesh and my heart may fail,   but God is the
strength of my heart and my portion forever. For
behold, those who are far from you shall
perish   you put an end to everyone who is
unfaithful to you.But for me it is good to be
near God   I have made the Lord GOD my
refuge,   that I may tell of all your works.
