    RIFLED BARRELS
  • FIELD CONSIDERATIONS
  • TREESTANDS
  • MUZZLE LOADING ACCESSORIES
  • SAFE, EFFICIENT SHOOTING
  • CLEANING, STORAGE, AND TRANSPORTATION

5
TERMS TO KNOW
  • MUZZLE LOADING
  • MATCHLOCK
  • BARREL
  • WHEEL LOCKS
  • SHOT PLACEMENT

6
MUZZLE LOADING
  • A BLACK POWDER GUN.

7
MATCHLOCK
  • Oldest kind of muzzleloader

8
BARREL
  • Tube through which shots or a bullet
  • are fired.

10
SHOT PLACEMENT
  • PUTTING THE BULLET EXACTLY WHERE YOU WANT IT.

11
COMPOUND BOW
A compound bow that has two wheels that relieves
the pressure off the bow when fully drawn. And
shoots an arrow faster than a traditional
bow
12
The way to load a muzzle loader.
13
The three different kinds of bows and their main
parts.
14
The vital areas of a deer.
15
TEN COMMANDMENTS OF MUZZLE LOADING.
  • Muzzle loading fire arms are not toys . Treat
them with the same respect due to any fire arm.
  • Use only black powder or pyrodex of the proper
granulation in you muzzle loading fire arm. These
fire arms are not designed to withstand the
higher pressures developed by modern smokeless
    powders.

16
The ten commandments of muzzle loading (cont).
  • Never file a muzzleloader unless the ball or shot
charged is firmly seated against the powder
charge. An air space between the powder and the
projectile will cause the barrel to be ringed or
bulged , thus ruined for accurate shooting. In
some cases this may cause the barrel to rupture
with possible injury to the shooter and by
    standers.

17
Ten commandments of muzzle loading
  • Do not exceed the manufactures recommended
maximum loads or try to load multiple projectile
loads. When in doubt see information concerning
    loads from an authoritative source.
  • When loading your muzzle loading fire arm do not
expose your body to the muzzle. Grasp the ramrod
only a short distance protrudes from the barrel.
Push it down in short strokes, rather than
grasping it near the outer end. If the rod
breaks, you could hurt your arm on the end of the
splintered end of the broken rod.

18
Ten commandments of muzzle loading
  • Always make sure that your downrange area is a
safe impact area for your projectiles. Round
balls may carry as far as 800 yards.
  • Never smoke while loading, shooting, or handling
    black powder.
  • Do not load directly from a powder or horn flask.
Use a separate measure. A lingering spark in a
barrel can ignite the incoming charge, causing
the horn or flask to explode in your hand.

19
Ten commandments of muzzle loading.
  • The half-cock notch is NOT the safety notch on a
muzzleloader. If your lock or trigger seems to be
functioning improperly, take your firearm to a
competent gunsmith for checking and correction of
    the problem.
  • The nature of a muzzle-loading firearm requires
that you exercise caution and skill. Make certain
that you know the proper steps for care, loading,
    and use.

20
Hunters Review
  • Name the three major components of a handgun.
  • What major part found in the revolvers and
    semi-automatic pistols.
  • Explain the sights on a handgun.
  • What are the four types of actions.
  • Why do safe hunters turn the empty chamber under
    the hammer.
  • Why is it unsafe to get too much oil or grease in
the action or chamber of a handgun when cleaning.

21
Hunters Review (cont.)
  • Tell why black powder must be kept away from all
    fire, sparks, or cigarettes.
  • What is the safety notch on a muzzleloader.
  • Bow hunting is the only time arrows should be
    nocked.
  • How does a responsible bow hunter care for trees
    when using his tree stand.

22
HUNTERS REVIEW(ANS)
  • FRAME, BARRELL, AND ACTION.
  • CYLINDER
  • HANDGUN THE OPEN SIGHTS OF A RIFLE.
  • SINGLE-SHOT, REVOLVER, SEMI-AUTOMATIC, BOLT
  • IF DROPPED OR BUMPED IT WILL NOT FIRE.
  • CAUSES HIGH PRESSURE DURING FIRING.
  • SPARKS CAN IGNITE THE POWDER.
  • THE NOTCH THAT KEEPS THE GUN FROM FIRING.

23
ANSWERS (CONT.)
  • A RESPONSIBLE BOW HUNTER NEVER DAMAGES THE TREES
IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM.
