  • All children are safe.

Arrival
  • School begins at 750
  • Tardy bell is 800
  • Students may arrive at 725 to eat breakfast
  • Students arriving before 750 go to the big gym
    at the opposite corner of the building.
  • 3 tardies 1 unexcused absence

Dismissal
  • School ends promptly at 315
  • Please follow dismissal rules to ensure safety
  • If picking up your child in a car, use the green
    name card on your dashboard

  • 750-- enter classroom
  • 945-1045-- Specials Music, P.E., Library
    (This is also Mrs. Links conference time.)
  • 1155-1220- Lunch
  • 315-- dismissal

Attendance
  • Every lesson counts!
  • Parents are responsible for getting students to
    school on time.
  • We prepare for the day from 750-800 A.M. See
    our 8 steps on the wall!
  • Health and hygiene are important.
  • If students have a fever, they must be fever-free
    for 24 hours before returning to school

The Student Success Initiative
  • In 1999, lawmakers passed the Student Success
    Initiative, which requires all third grade
    students to pass the Texas Assessment of
    Knowledge and Skills in reading to be promoted to
    fourth grade.

TAKS Tests
Reading
  • Administered March 3, April 29 and in June or
    July (TBA)
  • 3 chances to pass if not, student will not be
    promoted to 4th grade
  • 3 or 4 different reading passages that are 2-3
    pages long
  • 10-12 multiple choice questions on each passage
  • answers located in the passage

Reading at Home
  • Model Reading is fun and important!
  • Students at least 20 minutes a day.
  • Proper reading level (few words of difficulty per
    page)
  • Encourage healthy competition in the Accelerated
    reader program
  • Have your child read aloud to you everything
    signs, menus, newspapers, comics, recipes, etc.
  • Ask questions to see if your child understands
    what is being read
  • Who? What? When? Where? Why? How?

  • Administered April 28
  • One chance to pass if not, summer school is
    required
  • All third grade math skills
  • About 40 problems
  • Multiple-choice AND write-in answers
  • Heavy emphasis on story problems

Classroom Rules
  • Listen carefully and follow directions the first
    time.
  • Keep your hands, feet, and other objects to
    yourself.
  • Talk when you have permission.
  • Use the proper volume.
  • No talking in the hall, restroom, or
    during a fire drill.
  • Treat others how you want to be treated. Use
    nice words and actions.
  • Work and play safely.

Please Note
  • At the end of the first six weeks, parent/teacher
    conferences are required. At the conference, the
    teacher will distribute the first report card.
  • Please expect to arrange a conference the first
    or second week of October.
