Purpose of Policy
  • Set standards for acquisition and withdrawl of
    materials to aid in budget decisions and long
    range planning needs in accordance with mission.

Mission Statement
  • As part of the UH system, our library supports
    teaching, research, and service missions of the
    University. More specifically, our library
    primarily supports the Library and Information
    Science Program in preparing students for work in
    various types of information agencies by
    providing a collection of research and
    instructional materials.

Selection Process
  • Final authority for all selection and withdrawls
    rests with the head librarian
  • Unique selection process
  • LIS 615 Coursework requirement, all students
    must work with librarian mentors and provide
    recommendations for library acquisitions in a
    particular subject area. All recommendations are
    subject to review.
  • Internships Recommendations, weeding, directed
    by Head Librarian.

Gifts
  • Donations are accepted with the understanding
    that the materials may be used or disposed of as
    the library sees fit.
  • Our library adds items of continuing academic
    value.

Deselection/Withdrawls
  • Research librarymaterials kept indefinitely
  • Exceptions
  • Materials in poor physical condition which cannot
    be repaired or replaced economically, and which
    do not appear to be of any historic or research
    value may be withdrawn
  • Information better suited to another medium
  • Old textbooks with little relevant academic value
