Project Towards No Drug Abuse
  • Project TND is an effective drug abuse prevention
    program that targets senior high school-age
    youth.
  • Project TND focuses on three factors that predict
    tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use,
    violence-related behaviors, and other problem
    behaviors among youth, including    
  • Motivation factors (i.e., students' attitudes,
    beliefs, expectations, and desires regarding drug
    use)  
  • Skills (social, self-control, and coping skills)
    and  
  • Decision-making (i.e., how to make decisions that
  • lead to health-promoting behaviors).

  • Currently taught in 33 classrooms in DPS
  • 650 students going through the program
  • Training 50 new teachers in January

  • Parent Involvement
  • A parent/guardian must sign a consent form before
    student may use the health services.
  • Staff encourages students to discuss their health
    care with their parents. However, parents are not
    routinely notified each time a student uses the
    services, except by a student request or when it
    is a serious health concern.

services
  • MHCD has mental health therapists based at 8
    elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and 4 high
    schools
  • Therapists provide short-term treatment to
    students
  • Therapists work with school staff,
    parents/guardians, and other organizations to
    coordinate intervention and treatments services
    to students with emotional, behavioral or
    substance abuse issues.
