• Objective
• To increase awareness of breast cancer among high
  school students, staff and the community
• Raise funds for breast cancer research
• Use a competitive sporting venue for one common
  goal

• Event Summary
• Sycamore and Loveland volleyball teams
  collaborated to convert a regular season varsity
  match into a breast cancer awareness event
• The OHSAA gave permission for all players and
  officials to wear pink for the event
• Raffle prizes given away during timeouts and
  between games
• Fun activities between games for crowd enthusiasm
• Both schools celebrated all week leading up to
  the event
• Facts about breast cancer were passed out at the
  event, during lunches at school and morning
  announcements

• Event raised over 4,000 for breast cancer
  research
• Over 900 pink t shirts were sold to the fans
• Over 1,000 fans in attendance (normal attendance
  around 75)
• Lots of enthusiasm for the 2nd annual VOLLEYBALL
  FOR THE CURE next season

• Execution Summary
• Planning begins in August
• Get approvals from the Athletic Director,
  Coaches, and Athletic Boosters from both schools
  to host/participate in the event
• Varsity captains from both schools meet to
  coordinate fundraising, media, t shirt sales,
  etc. Include all varsity, jv, and freshman teams
  for ideas and planning so together they own the
  event.
• Find ways to involve the entire school (pep band,
  cheerleaders, etc) and community (door prizes,
  local celebrities, etc) in the event

• Other Facts about the Event
• Talk up the t shirts.
• EVERYONE wanted a t shirt. They were affordable
  for only 5.
• Let the girls own the event.
• It is amazing what these kids can do if they put
  their minds to it.
• Be creative in raffles, fundraisers, etc.
• Have fun!!!
