Course Description

• Comparative Management and Policy Analysis in A
  Global Context (Boundary Testing Topic) is a
  graduate level course that compares state of the
  art programs and activities in America with those
  internationally with an emphasis on Europe

Course Goals

• To identify different types of organizational
  structures, their corresponding strengths and
  weaknesses pertaining to topic
• To assess the different bureaucratic approaches
  in dealing with variety of public policy topics
• To address some of the salient issues of
  comparative management and policy and learn how
  to more effectively deal with our ethnocentrism
  enlarge view of world

• To apply the principles of entrepreneurial
  management and relate them to the transformation
  of public and not-for-profit organizations
  pertaining to topic
• To implement an organization assessment and
  evaluate key dimensions of those programs that
  the course selects to examine, domestically and
  internationally

  effectively manage organizations during a time of
  turbulence and major program change
• To expose students to classical conceptions of
  environmental and ecological management and to
  examine contemporary theories that affect the
  design and overall effectiveness of environmental

• TOP TEN ATTRACTIONS
• 1. Tibidabo - The name given to the summit of
  Collserola hill. This is where you'll find the
  city's oldest - and only remaining - amusement
  park.
• 2. Las Ramblas - bustling centre of activity. Las
  Ramblas runs from Placa de Catalunya, a main
  square full of shops, restaurants, and banks,
  located at the centre of the city, down to the
  monument of Columbus on the waterfront. The
  avenue is broken up into five distinct sections,
  each with its own name and characteristics.
• 3. La Sagrada Familia - Gaudí began this utterly
  surreal temple in 1882 and it still hasn't been
  completed. It was originally intended to be a
  modest, neo-Gothic church, but it has become the
  most famous building in Barcelona.
• 4. Casa Milà (La Pedrera) - Antoni Gaudí, the
  architect who built this jewel of Catalan
  modernism, wanted the façade to reflect his
  romantic and anti-classical ideas about design.
  It was built for the Milà family between 1906 and
  1910. In 1984, UNESCO declared it a World
  Heritage Site. It is sometimes referred to as the
  largest abstract sculpture in the world.
• 5. Zoo (EL) - the zoo houses over 7,000 animals
  from over 500 different species.
• 6. Catedral - Its history begins in a small
  chapel of the 1st century, on that building it
  was built a romantic church (11th century) of the
  one that remain remainders in the entry of Sant.
  Iu. In 1298 the construction of the present
  Gothic temple was initiated and the last detail,
  the central needle, was incorporated in 1913.
• 7. Castell de Montjuïc - This 18th-century castle
  stands on top of Montjuic hill. The original
  structure was built in 1640 during the War of the
  Segadors to resist Felipe IV's forces, but it was
  expanded and improved between 1751 and 1779 to
  form the present building, which has become a
  symbol of centralist repression and of the
  abolition of Catalan liberties. Once a military
  prison, it's now home to the Museu Militar
  (Military Museum).

8. Museu Picasso - Barcelona's tribute to one
of its adopted sons, this fabulous collection is
displayed in three adjoining medieval palaces.
You can see all of Picassos most important early
works, including engravings, lithographs and
pottery. 9. Port Olímpic - This entertainment
and leisure zone was built in 1988 for the 1992
Olympic Games. Most people come here to enjoy the
nightlife on offer in the bars, restaurants and
dance clubs. During the day it's busy with
shoppers as well. 10. Fundació Antoni Tàpies -
The artist himself, Antoni Tàpies, created this
centre in 1984 as a place in which to study
contemporary art, and its library has become one
of the most important of its kind in the world.
It exhibits a large collection of his drawings,
paintings, sculptures and engravings and
organizes regular temporary exhibitions as well.
