YM Possible
Coventry Automobile Division Young Members Panel
  • Coventry AD YM Panel Mission Accepted
  • November 2007 October 2008 Report

2
Coventry Automobile DivisionYoung Members Panel
  • Panel Background
  • In the summer of 2007 the Coventry Panel was in a
precarious state, the secretary had received a
job offer in Australia, the more senior panel
members no longer had time to dedicate to the
committee and just two people were left. The
future of the panel hung in the balance.
  • Encouraged by her MPDS mentor Helen Jackson
agreed to take on the role of Chairman and the
challenge to recruit new committee members began.
  • The committee now has 8 active and 3 supporting
members and has secured sponsorship from Jonathan
Lee Recruitment for refreshments for lectures.
  • A series of highly successful lectures and visits
has run throughout this time and the committee is
building stronger links with the midlands
    engineering community.

3
Panel Objectives
  • The panel set three key objectives for their
    first year these were
  • To organise interesting and informative lectures
for engineers with an interest in the Automotive
    Industry
  • To enable students to learn about real world
applications of engineering science and to
develop their communication and business skills.
  • To provide networking opportunities for Young
Engineers and promote engineering in the local
    community

the area. In each case the successor was found by
    the person leaving the panel
  • Two new members have now joined and will be
looking after schools liaison and adding more of
a social element to our activities
  • The emphasis for the panel is on having fun,
whilst putting on the best events we can. We have
informal meetings in a local pub - Attendance at
    meetings is typically 99
  • Any young member who talks to the panel members
is encouraged to join our activities
  • All panel members are actively supported to make
their ideas a reality and some great events have
    happened as a result
