Plains Renewable Energy, Inc., NTR plc, Clarcor,
    Inc., and BioProcessH20 LLC.
  • BioProcessAlgae formed in 2008 to commercialize
    algae production with advanced photobioreactor
    technologies.
  • BioProcessAlgae personnel invented patented
    photobioreactor technologies. Management team
has entrepreneurial and renewable energy project
    development experience and expertise.
  • Ethanol industry relationships offers synergies
    in marketing biofuels and by-products.

BioProcessAlgae
  • A photobioreactor (PBR) is a self-contained
system that provides an artificial environment
for photosynthetic organisms (algae) to perform a
chemical conversion. A PBR generally has the
    following subsystems
  • Light System
  • Air Handling System
  • Reactor Mixing System
  • Electrical System
  • Structural System
  • Instrumentation System
  • Nutrient System
  • BioProcessAlgae has patented PBR technology.
The PBR prototype is located at the technology
    development centre in RI.
  • The PBR prototype has achieved continuous
    production for 6 months.

Shenandoah Project
  • Shenandoah Algae Project
  • Green Plains operates a 50mgy ethanol plant in
    Shenandoah, IA
  • Available CO2 148,000 tonnes per annum
  • Available Water 272,000 gallons per day
  • Recycled Municipal Gray Water System
  • Installation of pilot project PBR system in
    Spring 2009.
  • Iowa Power Fund grant funds.

5
Shenandoah Project
Shenandoah Pilot Project Goals CO2 conversion
(/- 70,000 tonnes per annum) Develop PBR
engineering design data Position Iowa as leader
in algae industry
Project Development Pathway Phase 1 2
Phase 2
Phase 1.1
Phase 1.2
  • Initiate on site testing of PBR
  • 1- 3 test units approx. 0.5 ha in scale
  • Configuration of light and heat addition for PBR
  • Select best environment and algae for biomass
    yield, and CO2 sequestration
  • Cost 950,000
  • Continue scale up targeting yield and optimum
    unit size
  • Approximately 6 months on site continuous
    production
  • Confirmation of 3kg/day and 15kg/day units
  • Confirming target production capital and
    operating costs
  • Cost 3,220,00
  • Engineering scale unit approx 50 tonne/day
  • Optimize production unit design and cost
  • Algae refining and isolation
  • Cost 50,000,000

6
Linking the Value Chain
  • Linking the Value Chain
  • Adding Value to Ethanol Process
  • Use of Heat, CO2 Water
  • Algal Oil (Potential Biofuel Feedstock)
  • High-Protein Animal Feed
  • Bolt-On technology. Adds a new revenue stream
    to ethanol plants.
  • Ethanol industry already operate in biofuel and
animal feed markets. Algae can benefit from
    existing marketing relationships and supply
    chains.
  • Makes ethanol cleaner and greener. Ethanol plants
are a pure source of CO2.
  • Second generation biofuel federal funding and
    incentives.

7
Linking the Value Chain
  • Algae Output
  • Projections
  • Per 50mgy
  • Ethanol Plant
  • 70,000 tonnes of CO2 eliminated per annum
  • Production of 3 million gallons of biodiesel per
    annum
  • Production of 24,000 tonnes of high-protein meal
  • BioProcessAlgae will sequester up to 90 of CO2
as it passes through our PBR
  • BioProcessAlgae will integrate its operations to
work with all stakeholders to utilize valuable
    CO2.
  • Approximately 2 tonnes of CO2 will produce 1
    tonne of photautotrophic algae
