King Tutankhamun
  • We just landed. Egypt is a country that is
full of ancient treasures. First, we are going to
see King Tutankhamuns tomb. When we found his
tomb, we found out people called him King Tut.
King Tut died at the age of 18 which we thought
was sad. We saw King Tuts solid gold tomb, we
learned about his gold mask and his fine jewelry.
He lived from 1352 B.C to 1361 B.C. In the museum
we learned that many people who entered King
Tuts tomb, died mysteriously. Legend says there
is a mummy curse. We were freaked out, so we ran
    out.

The Great Sphinx
Now we are visiting the great sphinx. The statue
was made for the King Khufu. The sphinx was made
with two million stones. The head represents
wisdom and is shaped like a humans head. The
body represents strength and is also a lions
body. It is 240 feet long and 65 feet tall. The
sphinx is a mythical creature. It was carved in
2500 B.C. It guards the pyramid of King Khafra.
The face of the sphinx was badly damaged by
soldiers shooting at it. The Sphinx's nose is
being repaired.
4
Rameses II
Here we are at Abu Simbel. The king ordered that
two temples will be carved. The Rameses II was
built for the queen. The four king statues stand
guard over the queens tomb. People in ancient
times said that Pharaoh Ramses was the greatest
king that ever lived. Many people from all over
the world go to visit this famous temple and
tomb.

Time To Go Shopping
  • Today we are going to buy some toys to bring
home. We had to go to the bank to trade in
dollars for Egyptian pounds, which is the money
used in Egypt. We want to buy one baby rattle for
Hannahs baby cousin. Sarah and I want to buy
some cool hair pins for us. Then we want to buy
some marbles for our familys. We learned that
marbles were first invented in Egypt, over 5,000
years ago. After we buy all that, we went to a
different store to buy some really cool balls,
that looked just like the ones used in ancient
times. Then Sarah and I bought an Egyptian flute
for each other. Sarah wanted to buy one of their
pretty scarves. We both wanted to buy something
close to checkers, a game that was found in the
kings tomb. Then we each bought a miniature
flag. We decided we bought enough souvenirs, so
    we left the shops.

Visiting The Zoo
  • After the festival we went to the zoo. At the
zoo we saw all different kinds of animals like
goats, sheep, chickens, camels, ibex, snakes,
lizards, falcons, eagles, and some beautiful
fish. Did you know, Camels drink twenty-five
gallons of water in one time. Camels are the most
common animal in Egypt. Egyptian people have many
    wild animals near their home.

7
Fashion
  • People in Egypt wore eye makeup ,but it is not
like our makeup today. They made it from crushed
beetles in their tiny shells. Sometimes the
makeup would be glittery because of it. They also
wear wigs. The wigs are sometimes to heavy. One
time a girl had a heavy wig and she needed people
to help her walk. Egyptian people wear pins. They
would wear them to pin their robes, and girls
will also wore them in their hair. People keep
their makeup in jars. Men and women in Egypt
think fashion differently then we do today.

School
  • Today we met up with Amr Adel. He taught us
about his school and he let us visit. We learned
they start at the age 6 and learn until they are
    12. They go to primary school instead of
elementary school like we do. Girls learn to
cook, sew, and embroidery. Boys have to learn to
farm, make mettle and leather. All kids learn how
to read and write. They only have to do math for
two years. Only half of the students get to stay
in primary school the rest of the kids do not.
The kids speak Arabic but they have to learn
English too. School seemed way different then
    yours and ours.

We Are Back In The U.S.A
  • We just landed in back in New York. First, we
went to Hannahs house to give her baby cousin
her new baby rattle first because she was crying.
After , we gave everyone there gifts we told them
about our trip. They were surprised. We told them
we were too. At Sarahs house her family was
surprised too. When she gave the gifts to them
they were in shock. She also told them about our
trip to Egypt. Then it was 900pm and we all went
to bed and dreamed about Egypt again.

The Lands and Water Bodies
  • Egypt boarders the Mediterranean Sea. Sudan is
a land that is south of Egypt. The Red Sea and
Israel boarders east Egypt. There is four land
regions in Egypt. The west dessert and the east
covers most of Egypt. Sinai peninsula region is
in northeast of Egypt. The Rugged mountains rise
about 8,600 ft. above sea level. The most amazing
river is in Egypt, that river is the Nile River.
It runs north of Egypt. The Nile River is the
longest river in the world. Did you know 99 of
the Egyptians live along the Nile River.
Everything about the land and water bodies is
    interesting.

13
Life In Egypt
  • Most people live in country villages. Most
adults are farmers. One time a farmer made his
house of straw. Normally their house is made out
of mud bricks. In Egyptian houses they have no
electricity or running water. They live and work
in busy cities. There is most apartment
buildings. Some of them are small, but some are
large. Life in Egypt is unlike ours.
