Mission Statement
The Answer to Cancer Foundation was developed to
build community involvement in liver cancer
education, research and awareness. Our mission
is to raise funds for organizations and
associations that have a similar mission and a
large national reach. We strive to make a
difference, on a local level, by generating
enthusiasm for our events, promoting financial
contribution to our cause and integrating the
community into all of our efforts.

History
How did Answer to Cancer get started?
Founded in 2003 by Adrian Elkins, the Answer to
Cancer race and foundation was developed in
response to a personal journey. At the age of
19, and diagnosed with terminal liver cancer,
Adrian was determined to make a difference and
find his answer to cancer. He realized early on
in his diagnosis that, had he been better
educated and had more attentive medical care
specific to the risks involving his Hepatitis B
and his ethnicity, he might have been able to
respond more quickly to the cancer and that he
might have had a better prognosis. By enlisting
the help of family and friends, Adrian built the
first ever Answer to Cancer race, with the goal
of raising 10K and attracting 100 participants.
His first year goal was to distribute race
earnings to three organizations groups that
were especially personal to his cancer and
organizations that he felt would help others in
the future avoid his struggle. The idea behind
the Answer to Cancer was to simply create
awareness educate people and get the
community involved in something fun and
lighthearted. The Answer to Cancer run, a 5K and
10K, was a perfect event. Adrian, a Sophomore at
Southern Oregon University at the time of his
diagnosis, had been an avid cross country runner
for more than 10 years. He had even just
completed the 2002 Hood to Coast Relay three
weeks before his diagnosis (530 miles for nearly
20 milesnot bad!). The first-ever Answer to
Cancer race day turned out more people (and more
money) than Adrian could have imagined. In the
end, the event was a success, to say the least,
and the planning for future runs and events
started that night. Adrian died just 8 days
later. It is through Adrians determination,
drive and dedication that we continue with his
vision of educating those at risk, promoting
awareness, and raising funds dedicated toward
research that will eventually meet Adrians
overriding goal to prevent others from having
to go through what I have. Through this all, we
continue in the hope that see, in the end, we
will each find our own Answer to Cancer. There
is no finish line.ever.
