Teacher notes- previous slide
  • Ask students if they recognise any of the
symbols, or know what they symbolise.
  • They are all symbols for life, from different
    countries, and throughout history. Celtic,
    Egyptian, Japenese,Viking, etc.

7
What feelings do these things colours symbolise
to you ?
  • -Red -Black -Pink
  • -Yellow -Blue -White
  • -Green -Brown -Grey
  • Draw some illustrations of symbols to represent
    those feelings
  • Think of any other things which symbolise
    something and write an explanation.
  • E.g. fire

8
Signs and Symbols
  • Signs are information carriers, they warn or
instruct us and their message is usually very
    clear.
  • Symbols are different, they are images that stand
for or represent something else e.g. badges or
    flags.

9
Task 2
  • Design a personal Symbol to represent yourself
  • Make it into a medallion. Punch a hole in it and
thread a piece of string through it so it can be
    worn around the neck.
  • Suggestions
  • - choose a shape e.g. rugby ball if a fan,
guitar if you are musical, book if you read.
  • - include your initials
  • - include your hobbies
  • - include one thing you hate
  • - decorate in your favourite colours.

10
To Finish
  • Put your medallions on your desk and go around
the room looking at each others.
  • Choose one you like and think of a reason why
  • Sit down and one at a time, share these reasons
    with each other.
