Title: Radio in Schools

1
Radio in Schools
Using radio in schools can open up many
opportunities in learning. It is well known that
speaking and listening underpins learning. As Sue
Palmer, literacy consultant argues, you cannot
learn unless you can express and explore what is
in front of you. Using radio equipment in the
classroom not only provides a facility for
speaking and listening, but also enriches
learning in all subjects.

The radio station equipment can be used in almost
any lesson in a number of ways. In addition to
making radio programmes that can be recorded and
played back, children can also record programmes
that can reinforce learning through select
fact-finding reports. Playing these back will
consolidate learning, and, through adding sound
effects, can make learning sound fun!

Early years and Keystage 1 has not been
illustrated But, recording equipment would be
vital in any exciting phonics lesson. It could be
