Final Reflection Paper
  • For this semester you were assigned a CASS
partner. Throughout the semester you were to
interact with your dyad and CASS partner in class
and outside of class. In a two page reflective
essay I want you to describe the interactions.
  •
  • First tell me about your CASS partner, what did
you learn about them, their country and their
culture. Who are they? What are their likes and
dislikes? What do you know about them that you
didn't know when you first met them? What did you
    learn about their culture?
  •
  • Second tell me about the interaction. How did the
language barrier affect your communication? What
did you do to accommodate and communicate more
effectively? Did you feel comfortable with your
    CASS partner?
  • Third tell me about your feelings regarding the
assignment? Did you enjoy it? Was it difficult?
Do you think it should be an assignment? What
could you suggest to make it more fun? What could
you suggest to make it more memorable?

17
Final Reflection Paper Procedures
  • Paper must be typed, double-spaced, 12 pt Courier
New (or similar font e.g. Palatia, Times New
    Roman or Arial)
  • Reflection paper must be a minimum of 2 pages
long or a maximum of 4 pages long.
  •
  • The paper should be in proper essay format and be
    grammatically correct (please check spelling)
  •
  • Try and use some of the terms in your textbook to
    describe some of your interactions.
  •
  • Reflection Papers are due on the day you present
your ceremonial speech. NO EXCEPTIONS !!!!

18
Ceremonial Speech
  • The purpose of this assignment is two fold first
it is to introduce students to another form of
public speaking and secondly it is to give
students an opportunity to express gratitude to
    their CASS Partner.
  • This semester you were assigned a CASS Partner.
  • For this ceremonial speech students will honor
their CASS Partner with an award.

19
Ceremonial Speech Procedures
  • Use an extemporaneous speaking style. (students
may have note cards or a key word outline)
  • Speeches are to be 2 minutes in length.
(Practice so you know you will be on time!!)
  •
  • Outlines are NOT required for this speech BUT I
do expect students to come prepared. Please do
not waste my time or your classmates by winging
the speech. It would be very disappointing to see
great speeches by others and to have your partner
just wing a speech for you. Please be respectful
to your partner and do your best!
  •
  • Since you are giving your CASS Partner an award,
the award will be your visual aid. Students are
encouraged to make the award. The award should
not cost more than three dollars. The idea is
that it is hand-made especially for them. Think
of your interaction  what type of award would
    be appropriate.
  •
  • Keep the award a secret! Do not tell them what
they will be awarded or what you will say about
    them during your speech.
