Problem
  • To build a controls infrastructure that is
    capable of handling the communications needs of
    the house
  • Must handle information transfer among devices on
    the network in a timely and efficient manner
  • Must be robust enough to easily add a new device
    to the network

Semester Goals
  • Become familiar with the Echelon network and how
    it works
  • Read documentation
  • Hardware demo
  • Design the layout for a small demo room
    consisting of approximately 5-6 devices

The Hardware Demo
  • Echelons basic Getting Started package
  • 3 LonPoint modules
  • AI-10, AO-10, DIO-10
  • iLon 100 Internet Router
  • LonMaker software package

Commissioning Devices
  • Use of LonWorks Plug and Play control panel
  • Commissioning devices by pressing service pin
    transmits modules unique Neuron ID to the
    network
  • Basic network layout in Visio

Initial Network Setup
  • AI-10 module acts as a temperature sensor,
    receiving an analog input that represents
    external temperature
  • AO-10 outputs the temperature of the room to the
    AI-10 module
  • DIO-10 switches on and off either on a given time
    interval or in response to external conditions

Settings
  • Default values can be set in LonMaker program
  • Easy to change behavior of LonPoint modules
    through Visio interface by changing settings of
    each device
