    information on steps needed to take before you
    apply, how to become a student, academic
    programs, and a guide to My VWCC. As you will
    discover, Virginia Western

  • courses, or to complete a certificate or
  • degree program, we want you to feel
  • welcome and to take advantage of all
  • the services and opportunities that are

Before you Apply
  • Applicants may be required to complete an
    on-campus academic assessment prior to
    enrollment in certain classes or programs.
  • The assessment is normally administered during
    registration and is used to assist in placing
    students at the appropriate level of instruction.

  • Applicants who wish to enter a program of student
    (curriculum) should provide official transcripts
    from all high schools, colleges, and universities
    and may be required to meet with a college
    counselor prior to admission to
  • Discuss educational interests,
  • Determine needed academic assessments,
  • Plan admission to a specific curriculum,
  • Examine other reasonable standards to insure
    that applicants possess the potential to meet
    curriculum requirements.

Before you Apply
  • Current year high school graduates are strongly
    encouraged to provide official copies of their
    high school transcripts. Official transcripts are
    required in order to be considered for admission
    to the following curricula
  • Dental Hygiene
  • Nursing
  • Practical Nursing
  • Radiation Oncology
  • Radiography

Before you Apply
  • Applicants who do not meet academic requirements
    for a specific course or curriculum may be
    required to complete a developmental course or
    program before acceptance to the desired
    curriculum.
  • Applicants seeking admission to one of the Health
    Technology programs (Dental Hygiene, Nursing,
    Practical Nursing, Radiation Oncology, and
    Radiography) must meet additional specific
    entrance requirements.
  • Applicants interested in one of these programs
    should meet with the health technology
    information specialist and complete specific
    requests for entry into the curriculum.

    or fill out an application and either send it to
    Admissions Office, Virginia Western Community
    College, P.O. Box 14007, Roanoke, VA 24038, or
    turn it in at Room C108.

  • Persons who have attended Virginia Western within
    the last three years or applied to Virginia
    Western within the last year are not required to
    complete a new Application for Admission. Please
    contact the Admissions Office at (540) 857-7231
    for assistance.
  • Wait for notification that your application was
    processed successfully. The notification page
    contains important information regarding your SIS
    ID/Empl ID, username and temporary password.
    Outstanding admission requirements or obligations
    are also indicated. We suggest that you print
    this page for your records.

  • File for Financial Aid online (http//www.fafsa.ed
    .gov/) or by filling out an application from the
    Financial Aid Office located in Room C106 in
    Chapman Hall.
  • VWCC provides financial assistance to students
    through scholarships, grants, loans, and work
    study opportunities. Please contact the Financial
    Aid Office (540) 857-7331 for current deadlines
    for applying.

  • Assessment. Take the Compass Test in the Learning
    Technology Center (Room B011) to find out your
    current skill level in English and Math. The test
    is also used to determine which courses will best
    meet your academic needs. Sample questions are

  • Meet with a Counselor/Advisor.
  • Academic advising, information, evaluation
    assistance with educational plans, registration
    assistance, exploration of curricular and major
    goals, answering questions about academic
    policies and procedures, and referral services
    are open to anyone who requests assistance,
    including prospective students, faculty, and
    staff.

  • Advisors are available in Room C105 in Chapman
    Hall to  help individuals on a first-come,
    first-served basis.
  • New students are highly encouraged to see a
    Counselor/Advisor in the Counseling Office while
    currently enrolled curricular students should see
    their faculty advisor.

  • Step Five
  • Select Plan of Study and Courses. It is very
    important to select a program of study early if
    you intend to graduate from Virginia Western. 
  • If you need assistance with choosing a career
    path, please visit the Hall Associates Career and
    Employment Center located in the Student Center,
    Room S202.
  • In addition, all financial aid recipients are
    required to be placed in a curriculum to receive
    aid.

  • Counselors are able to assist you with choosing a
    program of study, come by the Counseling Office,
    Room C105 in Chapman Hall to declare/change your
    curriculum.

  • Register and pay online or visit the Admissions
    Office, Chapman Hall, Room C108, 540-857-7231.
  • Academic calendar - last day to drop and receive
    refund and last date to withdraw from a class.

  • Step Seven
  • Pay tuition on the web, or in person by the
    semester deadline. If tuition is not paid by the
    semester deadline, registration will be cancelled
    and students must re-register for their classes
    if space is still available. Payment then must be
    paid the same day.
  • Virginia Resident 81.74 per credit hour
  • Non-Virginia Resident 256.89 per credit
    hour    Composite tuition is subject to
    change
  • You may enroll in the FACTS plan or review the
    available payment plans at FACTS e-Cashier or
    contact FACTS Tuition Management at
    1-800-609-8056.

  • Purchase books, attend classes, and you are on
    your way!
  • The Bookstore is located on the South Campus in
    Craig Hall, located at the entrance of Duncan

  • Go to virginiawestern.edu and click (Look up your
    username)
  • Enter your First Name and tab
  • Enter your Last Name and tab
  • Enter your six-digit birth date (birth month,
    day, year) and tab
  • Enter your Emplid or Social Security Number (SSN)
  • If you do not know your Emplid or failed to
    provide your SSN at the time of application to
    the college, contact the Admissions Office at
    (540) 857-7231.
  • Click Search
  • Your Username, Emplid, and Instituton will be
    displayed

  • Students accessing My VWCC for the first time
    must create a password. Please review the hints
    provided when creating a password.

    access here.)
  • Enter your First Name and tab

  • Scroll down to Personal Information
  • Click User Preferences
  • Select VA Western Community College
  • Select your Academic Career
  • Select the Term for example Fall 2007, (2074)
  • Click Save

  • Login to My VWCC
  • Click VCCS SIS8.9 Student Information System
  • Click Student Center
  • Click View Financial Aid
  • Click the desired Aid Year. The award(s) you are
    viewing is a projection based upon your
    enrollment as a full-time student. Full-time
    students must be enrolled for 12 or more credits.
  • To exit, click Sign Out

  • Click VCCS SIS8.9 Student Information System
  • Click Student Center
  • Click Search for Classes
  • Select VA Western Community College
  • Select the Term and click Go
  • Enter at least two search criteria and click
    Search

  • Click VCCS SIS8.9 Student Information System
  • Click Student Center
  • Click Add a Class
  • Select the Term. Click change.

  • Enroll/Add Classes (Continued)
  • Enter the 5-digit Class Number in the Enter Class
    Nbr field. If you do not know the 5-digit Class
    Number, use Class Search.
  • Click Enter. The Class Preferences page will
    appear with the status of the class. If the
    status closed, select another class number.
  • To add another class, click Next. Repeat until
    all class numbers are entered.
  • Click Proceed to Step 2 of 3 and confirm your
    classes.
  • Click Finish Enrolling. If an error is
    identified, an error message will be displayed.

  • Login to My VWCC
  • Click VCCS SIS8.9 Student Information System
  • Click Student Center
  • Click Drop a Class
  • Select the Term. Click change.
  • Click the Select box next to the class to be
    dropped
  • Click Drop Selected Classes
  • Confirm your selected classes
  • Click Finish Dropping. If an error is identified,
    an error message will be displayed.

  • Click VCCS SIS8.9 Student Information System
  • Click Student Center
  • Click My Class Schedule
  • Select the Term. Click change.
  • Click the Printer icon on the toolbar
  • To exit, click Sign Out

  • Login to My VWCC
  • Click VCCS SIS8.9 Student Information System
  • Click Student Center
  • Scroll down to Finances
  • Click Make a Payment
  • The First Name and Last Name must match the name
    on the credit card.
  • Select the Credit Card Type

  • Enter the 16-digit Card Number
  • Select the Expiration Date, Month and Year
  • Enter the Telephone Number and Email Address
  • The Address must match address for credit card.
    To change, click Edit Address.
  • Click Next
  • Specify your payment amounts. To pay all charges,
    click Pay Charges
  • Click Next and confirm your payment amount
  • Click Submit
