Purpose of the Study
  • The purpose of this research is to compare the
    traditional teaching method of Concepts of
    Fitness with a teaching method that uses the
    Internet as an instructional supplement.

Significance of the Study
  • Internet is not widely used in physical education
  • Appropriate use can foster student learning
  • Flexibility of Internet course work

Research Hypothesis
  • College students enrolled in Concepts of Fitness
    using the Internet as a supplemental teaching
    method will have higher test scores than those
    enrolled in a traditional Concepts of Fitness
    class.

Delimitations of the Study
  • The study is confined to Concepts of Fitness
    classes for university-age students

Limitations of the Study
  • Varying ages and classifications may enroll in
    the freshman level Concepts of Fitness course
  • Study is limited to current available
    technological resources

Participants
  • 80 college age students from Arkansas State
    University
  • 40 male and 40 female
  • The sample will consist of two groups
  • The quasi-experimental groups will be intact
    groups and classes will be randomly pre-assigned
    to one of the treatments.

  • An 80 item cognitive examination
  • Form A
  • Form B

Procedure
  • Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Arkansas
    State University
  • IRB from the University of Arkansas
  • An informed consent will be obtained from each
    student
  • Study will be a two-group pre-post test design
    and will be conducted on intact groups

  • The control group will be taught using the
    traditional approach
  • Lecture/dissemination

  • The Treatment group will be taught using the
    Internet as a dissemination device

  • The study will take place over a 16-week period
