  • 230 Procession into the Botanical Garden
  • At 200 p.m. you will be asked to line up by
    department and major in the fire lane between the
    gardens and the Greenhouses (see next slide for
    list of departments).
  • Faculty will process down the center aisle and
    take their seats.
  • Plant Sciences Graduates will then lead the
    procession through the pergola down the center
    aisle.
  • Turn left at the stage and return to your
    original position in the fire lane.

  • 3. Awarding of degrees
  • For the awarding of degrees, the Biological
    Sciences Graduates will lead onto the stage where
    you will hand your index card to Associate Dean
    Dennis Nixon, who will read your name.
  • Walk across the stage to Dean Seemann. Shake
    with your right hand and take diploma with your
    left.
  • We will have a photographer to capture a photo of
    you as your receive your diploma on stage.
  • Walk off the stage to shake hands with your
    department faculty.
  • Proceed down the center aisle.
  • Please have guest remain seated as a courtesy to
    those students who do not walk until later in the
    program.

Make Plans for Rain Arrangements
In the event of rain, the main commencement
ceremony will be held in the Ryan Center and
admission tickets will be required. Due to fire
code regulations, only two tickets per graduate
can be issued. These will be provided at the URI
Bookstore when you purchase your cap and gown.
Guests exceeding the two-ticket limit may view a
simulcast of the ceremony at the Mackal Field
House. Should the Rain Plan go into effect the
CELS Graduation Ceremony will take place in the
Ryan Center along with the College of Arts and
Sciences (AS) immediately following the main
ceremony. Following the conclusion of the main
ceremony, and after the guests and graduates of
the other colleges have left, all AS and CELS
guests will be allowed into the Ryan Center.
