  • I will read you slogans and as a group write down
    the different products/businesses the slogans are
    from.
  • Example I say Im loving it
  • You write- McDonalds

  • Are the most effective means of drawing attention
    to a product
  • makes a simple, direct, concise, crisp, and apt
    statement
  • adopts a distinct "personality" of its own

A Good Slogan
  • is hard to forget - it adheres to one's memory
    (whether one likes it or not), especially if it
    is accompanied by mnemonic devices, such as
    jingles, ditties, pictures or film sequences on
    televised commercials.

What is Propaganda?
  • Spreading of information to help or hurt a cause
  • Telling only the side you want people to know
  • Propaganda appeals to emotion rather than
    intellect

    company
  • Ex Nike Swoosh, Mc Donalds Golden Arches,
    Targets Bulls-eye
  • Prototype- small scaled example of your product
  • Storyboard- Visual representation of your
    commercial plan/ideas

  • Testimonial
  • A famous person endorses a product idea or
    person. Usually this famous person is a celebrity
    or an athlete

Transfer Techniques
  • Bandwagon- everyone is doing it
  • Sex Appeal- if you use this product you will be
    more attractive and sexy
  • Love or Popularity- if you use this product you
    will become more popular/ people will love you
  • Power- if you use this product you will have
    power over other people
  • Fame- with this product will come fame
  • Wealth- by having this product you will appear
    rich

  • The slogan is so attractive that the audience
    does not challenge its true meaning
  • ultra, Extra Strength, The American Way
  • Loaded words-emotional

  • Repeats the name of the product frequently
  • Bi-rite Furniture
  • Gallery Furniture
  • The Dump
  • Head-On

Name Calling
  • The speaker criticizes a person or product with
    little or no reason or evidence
  • slamming the competition
  • EX At Burger King you can always get your flame
    broiled Whopper sandwich made your way. Were
    proud to say that we serve individuals, not
    billions.

Plain Folks
  • Appeal to the common, ordinary people
  • This tactic is used often by politicians

  • Toys gimmicks, Kids clubs, rebates, buy one get
    free gift etc.

Advertisers Target the Audience
  • 1. What is the age of the target audience?
  • 2. What is the social status of the target
    audience?
  • 3. Is the audience male, female, or both?
  • 4. What is the education level of the audience?

  • Watch TV /Listen to Radio and write down 5
    commercials and what type of propaganda was used.
  • Write down 5 slogans
  • You will present these as a group tomorrow!
