This is the 2nd Annual Symposium on OBE
  • There is a worldwide shift towards an Outcome
    Based Education paradigm
  • .focusing and organizing everything in an
    educational system around what is essential for
    all students to be able to do successfully at the
    end of a learning experience

Goals of this Symposium
  • Promote outcome-based approaches in student
    learning among Hong Kong higher education
    institutions
  • Promote outcome-based approaches in student
    learning to front line teaching staff and
    students through the sharing of experience with
    expert local academics
  • Allow Hong Kong academics and students to share
    experience and debate issues and the way forward
    in this very important trend in Higher education
  • Make the program of the Symposium to be field
    focus rather than General (Business, Engineering,
    Sciences, and Social Sciences, Humanities and
    Education Sub-groups)
  • Address and Debate 4 important issues of QAC
  • Articulation of Outcomes
  • Alignment of student activities to outcomes
  • Assessment of outcomes
  • Continuous process for the improvement of
    programmes

Organization of This Symposium
  • UGC Task Force on Outcome-based Approaches in
    Student learning
  • Established by UGC about one year ago
  • UGC members and staff
  • Members of the 8 higher education institutions in
    Hong Kong
  • Terms of reference
  • To foster collaboration amongst UGC-funded
    institutions in OBE
  • To identify and disseminate international best
    practices and how they are to be adopted in the
    Hong Kong context
  • To render assistance to and encourage teaching
    staff to adopt outcome-based approaches
  • To establish dialogue with relevant professional
    bodies
  • To advise UGC and serve as a contact point
    between the Committee and institutions on this
    subject and
  • To work with and facilitate institutions in
    weaving outcomes into the design and
    implementation of the 334 curricula
