Introduction
  • Hot Shots is essentially a Volley-Ball club with
organized teams / and leagues by level of
    competitiveness.
  • The Bar / restaurant surrounding the main
entrance of the club is clearly a part of where
the customers socialize while waiting or resting.
  • The activities generate about 1.7million sales
    annually. Profitability was almost immediate
within the first 2 months. The business
apparently generates 250k of positive cash flow
    annually.
  • The atmosphere of the customers is clearly a way
of life as it is for surfers. 75 of the people
    frequenting this successful Volley-Ball/Bar-Restau
rant club are wearing sandals, shorts and
T-shirts. (I guess it was not winter yetwe will
    see!) (see pictures)
  • I have visited on several occasions. Although
the place is not very busy during the day, it is
PACKED in the evenings. (estimate 600-700persons
    pass through daily) (see pictures)
  • The clear camaraderie among the customers
indicates they all know each other well. A good
sign indicating regular customers and confirming
    their common interest.

Restaurant Ragging Burrito
  • Tex/Mex restaurant called Ragging Burrito has
been made after a concept of a restaurant
    operating in Texas.
  • Operates on a Franchise like agreement, but there
are no other franchisees to date.
  • Hot Shots pays between 2 and 3 of the
restaurant gross sales, for the recipes and
know-how obtained, depending upon the actual
    revenue achieved.

Bar Restaurant

Other Activities
  • Private Parties
  • Corporate events
  • Organization of summer competitions on Charlotte
    Beach on lake Ontario
  • About 3-4000 persons were at the event (not sure
if it was persons who participate ??)
  • Bringing professional teams to Rochester from
    other cities.
  • Certifying Volley-Ball as an Accredited
    activity for Colleges.

12
Key Factors for Success
  • Location
  • Alcohol / Beer wine license
  • Restaurant a PLUS
  • Internal Controls with the Bar / Cash / Inventory
  • Organization of the Leagues
  • Communication / Database emailing with players
  • Start Leagues AFTER labor day
  • Leagues must be organized in teams of about 9
with 6 active players. This is important to
assure the minimum traffic thru the bar and
    restaurant.

13
Other Neighboring Clubs ?
  • JB mentioned other clubs in neighboring cities.
It may be important to visit those clubs.
  • The clubs he mentioned are
  • BUFFALO 3 Stations Club apparently with a
    different concept
  • SYRACUSE Spikes
  • ALBANY Planet Volley Ball

14
Potential Future ? Next Step?
  • JB was a Volley-Ball player and appears to know a
number of the athletes on the tour from Rochester
(who have also apparently played at his
    club..notably Scott Davenport)
  • JB has great experience in building this club and
    know-how in running this business.
  • JB is well settled in his business which is
running very well, yet he appears very interested
and motivated with the possibility of getting
involved in operating and expanding this idea
    across the country.
  • It appears to be worthwhile to initiate dialogue
    and further explore what possible
setup/involvement could be pursued with JB.
  • JB has confirmed that he will keep dates of
mid-October free in the case he would be invited
to the Santa Barbara event. He appears very
interested in visiting and meeting the others
    involved.
