The policy to change the medium of instruction in
the teaching of mathematics and science from
Bahasa Melayu to English. The IT Equipment is to
enable the enhancement of the teaching and
learning processes in schools - using notebooks,
LCD Projectors and internet access as a platform
to integrate all teaching and learning materials.
ETeMS has been proposed as an urgent interim
measure to ensure that teachers of mathematics
and science (MST) will have basic capacity to use
English as the medium of instruction.

Malaysian Grid for Learning (E-learning)
  • A strategic e-learning initiative by MOE, in line
with the Governments commitment to create a
    knowledge-based society
  • MyGfL is intended to enhance the formal education
process (teaching, learning and assessment) in
    schools by
  • providing online educational resources
(content, information, services and expertise) to
teachers and pupils to use and share
  • leveraging and integrating ICT tools available
in schools and Teacher Training Colleges to
    enhance teaching-learning
  • (http//www.mygfl.gov.my)

investment bridging the Digital Divide in Schools
    by providing

  • Equal access and opportunity to students to learn
    about ICT with ICT
  • Training teachers (INSET/Pre-Service)
  • Connectivity (which remains a primary challenge)

24
Conclusion
  • Building ICT Capacity in schools is fraught with
challenges in a developing country like Malaysia.
  • Policy and practice has a strong relationship in
    building this capacity.
  • It is relatively easy to roll-out and build ICT
infrastructure, but training is the key to
    building ICT culture in schools.
  • Innovation and creativity are essential for the
    future of Malaysian schools.
  • E-learning, Lifelong learning are essential for
    the future
