How to increase the Jc ?
  • To react all the Nb tube putting Ta barrier
  • Replace the NbTa tube by a NbTi tube to increase
    the Jc at 15 T
  • Why ?

- For the Ti-ternary , Bc2 is always higher
than the Ta-ternary - Higher Jc obtained by
OST at 15 T with the Ti-ternary billets

to sustain better a compressive transversal force
Ic measurements under compressive transversal
force performed on the B215 strand

FE calculations on reacted strand are needed to
find a strand design less sensible to transversal
compressive force.

ITD - ALSTOM
Assuming that Alstom will succeed to produce the
NED strand, we will have to reduce the
sensibility of the ITD strand to transversal
compressive force and to increase the Jc at 15 T.
In the NED program with Alstom, there is no
possibility to doped the Nb with Ti.

No improvement seen with 20 mm thick Ta tube A
Cu Nb composite could be used to reinforce
mechanically the strand
