WSHA Government Affairs
  • Protecting the tree fruit industry from unfair
laws and rules, WSHA represents the tree fruit
industry on legislative and regulatory issues in
    Olympia.
  • We work with other tree fruit groups to identify
priority issues and develop industry positions to
    offer smart solutions.
  • The end result saves the industry time and money
    from unnecessary laws and regulations.

56
WSHA Events
  • Tree Fruit Day is organized each year by the
    Washington State Horticultural Association and
brings political attention to the states tree
    fruit industry.
  • Tree fruit producers gather in Olympia the
beginning of each year, to participate in the
    Annual Tree Fruit Day.
  • Participants personally meet with many key
legislators to brief them on tree fruit issues.

57
WSHA Events
  • Annual Golf Tournament is the second Tuesday of
August and organized by the Washington State
    Horticultural Association.
  • All proceeds from the tournament support
scholarships that are awarded to students in
honor of past tree fruit industry leaders.
  • Scholarships are awarded in memory of Gerald
Nolan, Melvin Crowder, Jim Matson and Delmar
Smith. Over the past thirteen years, the
tournament has raised more than 145,400 for
    student scholarships.

58
WSHA - Informed Competitive
  • WSHA works to keep the tree fruit industry
informed and competitive. Our success is
intertwined with the entire tree fruit industry
growing, packing, shipping and marketing. The
economic strength of the association is dependent
on a healthy, productive and growing industry.
  • As a result, we work to provide the tree fruit
industry with solid information on the latest
    trends, practices and strategies.
  • Our focus is to help the industry make timely
    business decisions.
