• The Government is encouraging local
  authorities to use their role as local community
  leaders in partnership with businesses, other
  local, sub-regional and regional public sector
  organisations and third sector organisations to
  achieve a more integrated approach to resources
  and waste in their area.

Waste Strategy

• Stimulate markets for recycling through
  procurement
• Take advantage of opportunities for reprocessing
  of waste into resource
• Promote awareness within business community of
  their Duty of Care
• Facilitate engagement with businesses providing
  advice on how the can reduce, reuse and recycle
• Facilitate procurement of recycling collection
  services and trade waste sites
• Encourage local debate for change
• Encourage the provision of recycling collection
  services in homes, shopping centres, workplaces
  and schools (using planning and other powers
  where appropriate

• Evening recycling collection service

• 80 businesses signed up to scheme

• West Oxfordshire Trade Recycling Collection
  Project
• Offer collection service to 900 local businesses
• 2,300 tonnes collected 1,600 tonnes could be
  recycled
• 93 wished to recycle
• Materials to recycle were glass, cardboard and
  paper
• Pilot Glass Collection
• 26 licensed premises took part
• Collected 7 tonnes of glass over a 2 week period

• Milton Keynes Resource Efficiency Seminar
  programme
• Delivered through the Green Business Network
• At the end of Q3 7 seminars delivered
• Aim for 15 business action plans per seminar
• Develop case studies of RE in local companies

• Assisted in the recruitment of LAs for the SEEDA
  water efficiency project in the SE hospitality
  sector.
• - Aylesbury Vale participating
• Delivered a SE regional meeting in Jan 08.
• - Number of local authorities looking to
  emulate Ealing Council and ProperOils Waste
  Cooking Oil programme.
• Developing tools to help instigate business
  services
• - Business survey and trade recycling
  collection guidance notes. Both including
  spreadsheets to help analysis and
• save officer time
