Background on DevInfo
  • The Syrian MDG Monitoring Database will be shared
    between Government Institutions, UN agencies as
    well as other operators engaged in MDG related
    development activities in Syria.

  • Regularly updated, this tool is meant to help
    decision makers to monitor development indicators
    at national and sub-national level, to analyze
    trends as well as to orient decision.

  • This tool should also facilitate the production
    of tables, graphs and maps for reporting purpose.

  • The Syria MDG Monitoring Database will be
    established from indicators extracted from
    official and reliable data sources .
  • Indicators will be entered into the database at
    National, governorate, district, and further
    level whenever available.

  • Started in 2002.
  • Two training courses were conducted by CSF expert
    .
  • CBS conducted a training course for ChildInfo
    focal points from governorates, and concerned
    ministries .

    created .
  • The CIU report was issued and disseminated to
    concerned parties .
  • UNICEF was following up with CBS on all stages.
    No problems were faced, and the work in CIU went
    well.

  • MOU Between SPC, CBS the UNCT for the
    establishment of a DevInfo Syria MDG Monitoring
    Database has been started 2005-2006.

    Population and Housing census using Devinfo ver
    4.0 and for all geographic levels for Tartous
    Governorate (6 levels).
  • A training workshop for UNCT staff on all Devinfo

  • Produce a Syria Specific database of indicators
    related to MDGs, and make it available to
    institutions and organizations involved in
    development work in Syria.

  • Creating beta version of database with Syrian MDG
    indicators which is based on census and other
    surveys.

  • Preparing the indicators to be used in the final
    version of Syrian Devinfo database using all
    available data such as
  • Population and Housing census.
  • Other surveys (Mics, Hies, LaborForce ).
  • Regular statistics from related ministries.
  • Preparing digital maps for all geographic levels
    which had been started actually since Oct. 2005.

Future plans
  • 1- After the Cairo workshop tow training workshop
    will be conducted (using the new version of
    Devinfo ver 5.0)
  • Training on data admin guide for 10 persons from
    technical team and other agencies
  • Training for the sub technical committee members
    and UN staff on DevInfo user guide.

  • 2- Extend the Syrian Database to include all
    available indicators (more than 150 indicators).
  • 3- Update the Syrian Database Regularly and
    accurately (6 months)

  • 4- Implementing some surveys to produce the
    indicators that are not available now such as
    (Health , Environment , Education , poverty ).
  • 5- Support the UN agencies in Syria to monitor
    their activities using Devinfo.
  • 6- Many training workshop in Using Devinfo for
    all related ministries and agencies.
