Nonfiction and Fiction can be written in these
forms
  • Narrative A story or an account of events
  • Prose The ordinary form of spoken or written
    language, without metrical structure like poetry
  • Poetry A piece of literature written in meter
    verse.
  • Short story A short narrative, having few
    characters and usually under 10,000 words.
  • Novel A fictional prose narrative of
    considerable length, typically having a plot that
    is unfolded by the actions, speech, and thoughts
    of the characters (chapter book)
  • Play A literary work written for performance on
    the stage a drama

  • Tall Tale An exaggerated story
  • Myth A traditional, ancient story dealing with
    supernatural beings, ancestors, or heroes
  • Legend A non-historical or unverifiable story
    handed down by tradition from earlier times and
    popularly accepted as history
  • Fable A story that teaches a lesson and usually
    has animal characters that
  • speak and act like humans
