Title: Requirements%20for%20supporting%20Customer%20RSVP%20and%20RSVP-TE%20over%20a%20BGP/MPLS%20IP-VPN%20draft-ietf-l3vpn-e2e-rsvp-te-reqts-02.txt

1
Requirements for supporting Customer RSVP and
RSVP-TE over a BGP/MPLS IP-VPNdraft-ietf-l3vpn-
e2e-rsvp-te-reqts-02.txt
  • Kenji Kumaki KDDI RD Labs, Editor
  • Raymond Zhang BT
  • Yuji Kamite NTT Communications

2
Major Changes from -01
  • Clarified problem statement in Section 3.
  • Last IETF, Dave asked a question about RSVP-TE
    over LDP.
  • Clarified specific requirements for PCE features
    support in section 6.8.
  • Specifically, a mechanism for dynamic PCE
    discovery

3
Problem Statement
  • C-TE LSP over LDP
  • C-TE LSP over P-TE LSP
  • Depending on the service level, service providers
should be able to choose P-TE LSPs or non-TE LSPs
in the backbone network. Actually, depending on a
policy of service provider's network, all nodes
are not necessarily ready to enable RSVP-TE.

4
Problem Statement
  • Service provider A needs all of the following
items to provide a service. ? C-TE LSP over P-TE
    LSP
  • C-RSVP path QoS guarantees.
  • Fast recovery over BGP/MPLS IP-VPN to protect
traffic for C-TE LSP against CE-PE link failure
    and PE node failure.
  • Strict C-TE LSP bandwidth and QoS guarantees.
  • Resource optimization for C-RSVP paths and C-TE
    LSPs.
  • Service provider B needs some of them to provide
    a service. ? C-TE LSP over LDP
  • All nodes are not necessarily ready to enable
RSVP-TE in the backbone network. (In this case, a
service provider doesnt expect FRR and bandwidth
and QoS guarantees in the service providers
    backbone.)
  • Fast recovery over BGP/MPLS IP-VPN to protect
traffic for C-TE LSP against CE-PE link failure
    and PE node failure.
  • Use of explicit routes

It depends on a service level and a policy of
service providers.
5
Specific Requirements
  • PCE features support for C-TE LSPs
  • Originally, this model is similar to an
    inter-domain case.
  • PCE architecture is applicable to this model.
  • A mechanism for dynamic PCE discovery
  • All PCEs are not necessarily discovered
automatically and only specific PCEs that know
VPN routes should be discovered automatically.
