responsible for what happened to it? Why do you
    think so?

6
What are the key words that help you decide where
to look for the answer and how to answer the
question? (circle them)
  • What happened to Staceys coat? Who is most
responsible for what happened to it? Why do you
    think so?

7
The key words are
  • What happened to Staceys coat? Who is most
responsible for what happened to it? Why do you
    think so?

Why?
  • Tells you where to look
  • the passage about the coat

  • what happened, who is responsible, and why.

8
How many parts there are to the question?
  • What happened to Staceys coat? Who is most
responsible for what happened to it? Why do you
    think so?

There are three parts to the question. The
question words what, who and why, as well
as the question marks, give you this hint.
9
The parts are
  • 1) What happened to Staceys coat?

2) Who is most responsible for what happened to
it?
3) Why do you think so?
10
Use the question(s) to answer the question
  • Your answer should begin with Staceys coat . .
    (and what happened to it).
  • Next your answer should have The person most
responsible for this is . . . (and then who you
    think it is)
  • Finally your answer should have The reason I
think this is . . .(and then why you think this,
using several textual references for your
    reasoning)

11
Check your answer by underlining the parts of the
question that youve answered.
Staceys coat was given to TJ by Stacey. The
person most responsible for this is Stacey. I
think this because Stacey didnt need to listen
to what TJ said about his coat because TJ is not
a reliable person. Plus his Uncle Hammer gave
him that coat. He should have cared for the coat
for that reason, if no other. Finally, Stacey
didnt have a good coat and needed that coat for
the winter.
  • What happened to Staceys coat? Who is most
responsible for what happened to it? Why do you
    think so?

12
Cite multiple textual references to back up your
answer!
  • I think this because Stacey didnt need to listen
to what TJ said about his coat, TJ is not a
reliable person. Plus, his Uncle Hammer gave him
that coat, he should have cared for the coat for
that reason, if no other. Finally, Stacey didnt
have a good coat and needed that coat for the
    winter.

Notice that there are 3 textual references listed
above.
13
Now practice this
  • Question What happened to TJ at the end? Could
his friends or family have prevented this? How?
  • Read the whole question.
  • Determine the key words that help you decide
where to look for the answer and how to answer
    the question.
  • Determine how many parts there are to the
    question.
  • Use the question(s) to answer the question.
  • Check your answer by underlining the parts of the
