    years old at time of enrollment
  • Maximum follow up of 10 years
  • 61,317 deaths (42,173 men and 19,144 women)
  • 186,000 men and women had never smoked, were
    middle-aged, and did not have coronary artery
    disease
  • 20 to 40 higher risk of death in overweight
    healthy middle-aged individuals who had never
    smoked
  • 2 to 3 times greater risk of death in healthy
    obese middle-aged individuals who had never smoked
