Before Fueling
  • Fuel in daylight when possible
  • Tie boat securely to dock
  • Put out all flames no smoking
  • Shut off engines/electrical equipment
  • Close doors, hatches, portholes
  • Have fire extinguisher close at hand
  • Have all passengers leave the boat

While Fueling
  • Keep nozzle in contact with filler pipe
  • Estimate fuel needed
  • Fill only 95 full

After Fueling
  • Close filler pipe opening
  • Wipe up any spillage - leave wipers on shore
  • Open all portholes, doors, hatches
  • Check fuel lines, tanks, and filters for leaks
  • Turn on bilge blower, if so equipped
  • Sniff bilge for vapors - run blower until
  • you are sure there are no fumes
