Japanese Meal
  • Next term, soon after we get back, I am
organising a trip to the Japanese restaurant,
    Wagamama, in Lakeside
  • There will be limited places available!!
  • The date is not set yet, but we will be leaving
at 2.30, and the cost will include food and
    transport
  • People who do not manage to get on the coachload
will be welcome to make their own way (with
    parents) and join us

3
Japanese meal
  • You may get changed after school ends, OR come in
uniform, but you wont have long to get changed
and if youre late we WILL leave you!
  • Orders will be taken in advance, either from the
menus brought in, or the ones online
    http//www.wagamama.com/locations/showlocation/579
  • If more people are interested than we have places
for, there may be some sort of competition or
    project to earn your place!
  • More details to come!

4
Design a Manga-Inspired Asian Restaurant
  • Competition for people wanting to attend the
    Japanese meal

5
Why have a competition?
  • There will be only 15 places available on the
coach, but more than 15 people want to go, so it
seems fairest to give those places to the people
    who want them most
  • This competition will be judged by a mixed panel
of staff, who know you and what you are capable
of not being the best at writing/ drawing/
designing etc will not stop you from winning! YOU
    ARE BEING JUDGED ON EFFORT!

6
ENTRY REQUIEMENTS
  • 1 sample menu
  • 1 design for shop layout
  • 1 design for staff uniform
  • 1 written brief, explaining what sort of
restaurant you would run, why you have chosen
that character/show theme, what sort of menu you
have designed and what sort of customers you
would hope to attract (max 1 side A4)

7
Character/show theme?
  • This is simply what specific manga influence you
want to use, e.g. Ryu Oki theme could mean
decorating everything in natural colours and
    using lots of carrot logos
  • This is for a real restaurant, so your ideas
    have to be believable!
  • You need to look up specific Japanese/ Asian
foods for your menu, but you can refer to the
    theme, e.g. Ayekas sushi rolls
  • If you are not confident about your drawing, see
me or one of the more experienced Manga Clubbers
    for help with uniform design

8
What do I actually need to make/do
  • Menu
  • 1 menu, including starters, main courses,
desserts and drinks you will need to look up
    popular Asian/Japanese foods
  • Uniform
  • At least 1 uniform, can be male or female, for
the service staff. MUST BE COLOURED AND LABELLED!

9
What do I actually need to make/do
  • RESTAURANT DESIGN
  • Either as a plan from above, or in 3D, design a
main seating area layout, with labels to show
special features e.g. carrot shaped tables etc
  • WRITTEN BRIEF
  • This is where you explain
  • what your theme is,
  • why you have chosen it,
  • how your restaurant is special,
  • who you think would want to come to it.
  • You can add as much detail as you like, but it
cant be more than 1 side A4!

10
Aaaargh! How could I get started?!
  • Brainstorm your favourite characters/ shows
  • Which would make the best inspiration for a
    restaurant?
  • If those characters were going to a restaurant,
what would they want to see / do / eat / sit on?
  • What sort of people would want to go to that
restaurant? E.g. a Ryu Oki themed restaurant
could be very healthy and attract young people,
or a Sasami restaurant might be good to bring
kids to, but a Ruyuku restaurant would be a much
    more rock n roll affair!
