Linguistic profile of Canada
  • 17.5 million anglophones (english is their mother
    tongue)
  • 6.8 million francophones (french is their mother
    tongue)
  • 5.3 million allophones
  • The mother tongue of 1 in 6 Canadians is neither
    english nor french

  • 2,684,195 anglophones
  • 57,490 francophones

  • Community or cultural organisations
  • Through the schools, ie children learn it in
    school and bring the information home to their
    families

it
  • Already working at the community level just to
    address the language issue
  • Social diffusion
  • Use car less versus having a smaller car

If answer to any of first three questions is no,
what did we do about it?
  • Need some form of measuring the effectiveness of
    what you are doing to be able to answer this
    question
  • Need to identify if the problem is due to
    language
  • This is not a simple thing to do, cut yourself
    some slack
  • If effectiveness of actions are high due to
    multi-lingual format, usually need to demonstrate
    this to get future funding
