  • TO ENHANCE THE ENERGY DISSIPATION CHARACTERISTICS
    OF STEEL COUPLING BEAMS.
  • TO USE THE GENERATED HYSTERETIC RESPONSES OF THE
    JOINTS TO ESTABLISH SIMPLIFIED ANALYTICAL MODELS
    FOR ANALYSIS OF COMPLETE COUPLED WALL SYSTEM.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF TEST AND TEST SET UP
  • STEEL COUPLING BEAM (PRIMARY BEAM) WILL BE JOINED
    AT THE CENTER WITH A FUSE BEAM USING BOLTED
    SPLICING.
  • CYCLIC LOADS WILL BE APPLIED WITH THE HELP OF
    ACTUATORS.
  • THE APPLIED LOAD WILL BE SUCH THAT THE FUSE WILL
    REACH ITS SHEAR CAPACITY PRIOR TO THE SPLICE ,
    BOLTS OR THE PRIMARY BEAM.
  • THE SPLICE JOINT IS DESIGNED AS SLIP CRITICAL TO
    AVOID ANY BEARING ON THE FUSE OR THE PRIMARY BEAM.

  • THE TEST WILL BE REPEATED USING ELASTOMERIC PADS
    SANDWICHED BETWEEN THE SPLICE PLATES.
  • THE TEST SETUP WAS DESIGNED KEEPING IN MIND THAT
    THE FUSE SHALL REACH SHEAR CAPACITY PRIOR TO THE
    OTHER COMPONENTS REACHING ANY FAILURE MODE AND
    THAT THERE IS MINIMUM MOMENT ON THE SPLICE.
