Title: IEEE802.3aq Channel model ad hoc Task 2: Time-varying study

1
IEEE802.3aq Channel model ad hocTask 2
Time-varying study modal noise
  • Summary of task 2 status following Nov meeting
  • 30th Nov 2004
  • Jonathan King

2
Task 2 status following November meeting
  • Task 2 has given input to Channel ad hoc on all
    its study areas
  • On Channel time variation mechanisms and speed of
    variation
  • Fibre patchcord before main fibre link is main
    source of time variation
  • Fibre vibration and quasi static IPR experiments,
plus referencing GR-63-CORE has shown time
variation to be characteristically slow, 10Hz or
    less.
  • Polarization effect bounded and included in
    measurements above
  • Dynamic test removed from draft based on slow
    channel dynamics
  • informative comment may be added
  • Temperature effects are an insignificant cause of
    channel dynamics
  • Modal Noise Calculations
  • 0.5dB noise penalty confirmed

3
Residual work items - for discussion and agreement
  • Complete last two items on temperature effects ?
    - Petre Popescu
  • Modal noise calculations were for FP , is DFB
    required ? - Petar Pepeljugoski
  • Informative note to be included on channel
variation for Draft 1.X - is this required for
    January meeting ?
  • Others ?

Additional work items - for discussion and
agreement
  • Launch study - jointly with task 4 to be
    discussed and agreed
  • goals specific input to task force on launch
conditions and launch testing in time for January
    meeting
  • tasks
  • simulations showing coverage vs PIE-D plots as
    output, for various launch conditions
  • agree common model (connector offsets, rise
    times, per offset statistics)
  • recommend (simple) launch compliance test
  • volunteers.....
