How did it all begin?
  • We began this journey when we discovered our
shared belief in the value of integrative
curriculum during a class we took together
  • Creating Curriculum for the 21st Century

  • Goals
  • to enable students to make connections between
disciplines and between past and present,
  • to develop understandings of historical events
and the factors that influence and lead people to
    act,
  • to explore the role that art and individuals play
    in this process,
  • and to use technology as an intentional bridge
allowing and enabling us to integrate our
    subjects.

Unit Overview Two Strands
  • Art
  • Throughout history, artists have used their
images to share personal or communal
perspectives, to express opinion, and to
communicate ideas to others. Art reflects the
experience and perspective of the artist whether
it is done through the brush of the painter, the
chisel of the sculptor, or the lens of the
photographer. Images created by artists also have
the effect of influencing our own views and how
we perceive ourselves and the people and events
around us. By looking at iconic images from our
nations history and understanding how to read
them in the context of the time and place in
which they were created, students will come to a
better understanding of the role that art and
artists play in the shaping of culture and
    society.
  •
  • Social Studies
  • People's ideas about society are
shaped by many influences which affect how
people interact with each other and with their
government. Sometimes these ideas about society
cause people to examine their government and to
want to make changes. Today our country is in the
midst of a presidential election season and
people are faced with a barrage of information
about candidates, issues and beliefs about the
role of Americans in the world today. In the
period leading up to the American Revolution,
colonists were faced with many challenges and new
ideas about government and society that led them
to declare their independence from Great
Britain. In this unit students will explore
the role of individuals, as well as of art,
ideas, and social pressures that can lead to
    change in society.

  • After getting over the initial surprise of
seeing Mrs. Miller in Mrs. Levys room, and
having the lights turned off almost immediately,
    students began
  • to get the picture of what
  • we were going to do
  • The Hook Photostory
