Research - where?
3
Research (what Why?)
  • Is simply gathering the information we need to
answer a question and thereby we solve a problem
  • We do it to freeze ourselves from loneliness (on
    what we see and hear)
  • We do it in order to develop and change the
    world
  • we do it in order to contribute to the human
    knowledge

4
Research
  • Everyone everyday does it
  • Very few of us do write what we find, and we keep
rely on the research of others who did write up
    their findings.

5
Why write it up?
  • Write to Remember
  • Write to Understand
  • Write to Gain Perspective

6
Write to remember
  • Some special people can gather information
    without recording it
  • Most of us do forget when new facts come up
  • Most of us need additional notes to carry on
conversations, otherwise we are likely to forget
    or misremember
  • researchers write from the beginning to the end
of their project for better understanding and
    retention of their findings.

7
Write to understand
  • It creates more clearly the relationship among
    our ideas
  • It enables us to arrange and rearrange the
results of our research in new ways, we see new
    connections and contrasts, complications and
implications we might otherwise have missed
  • It help us in understanding what we are learning
by creating a larger patterns of meaning and
    significance.

8
Write to gain Perspective
  • Our thoughts become more clearer light on papers
    than in minds
  • We improve our thinking when we encourage it with
notes, outlines, summaries, commentary, and other
    forms of thinking on paper
  • we can reflect on our thoughts clearly only if we
separate them from the swift of our thinking and
fix them in coherent written form

9
Write to gain Perspective
  • We write so that we can think better
  • We write so that we can remember more
  • We write so that we can see more clearly.
  • And as we shall see, the better we write, the
    more critically we can read.

10
Why Turn it into a Formal Paper?
  • Why should we adopt language and forms that are
    not ours?
  • Whats wrong with our language, our concerns?
  • Why cant we report our research in our own way?
  • Why should we turn our work into a formal essay
    or research report?

11
Why Turn it into a Formal Paper?
  • Learning to do research will change the way we
think (our lives) by giving us more ways of
    thinking
  • we will be different for having done research,
because we will be freer to choose who we want to
    be.
  • Writing for others is more demanding than writing
    for ourselves,

12
Why Turn it into a Formal Paper?
  • The research paper is a way of interaction
between the writer and the reader
  • The research paper must meet the readers
expectations and satisfy the standards forms
  • writing a research paper is just thinking in
print (it gives our ideas the the attention they
    deserve).

13
All we need is
  • To make plans
  • and
  • Create value of research

14
Thank
  • You!
