Title: How does Navy Nursing compare to civilian nursing After eight years of service, she left the Navy be

1
How does Navy Nursing compare to civilian
nursing? After eight years of
service, she left the Navy because her husband
retired. But after just one year as a civilian
nurse, she came back into the Navy.
Just a few of her reasons are below
I really didnt want to work until I was 65 or
70 years old before I could retire comfortably!
With the Navy I can retire in my mid- 40s and
have the opportunity for a second career if I
wish. The Navy provides me with 30 days paid
vacation a year, in addition to paid required
sick leave. Those 14 days a year of vacation
you get from a civilian hospital also cover your
sick leave, all with no pay! Early in my
career I was being groomed for middle and upper
management. Our nurses are part of the
hospitals decision making process. No
civilian hospital will send you back to school
full time with pay to pursue your Masters
Degree. The Navy does! The Navy covered the
cost of all my certification classes BLS, ACLS
and PALS. Last year I attended the National
Teaching Institute Critical Care Exposition.
Since I was living in Japan, the total cost was
4,000. The entire trip was paid for by the
Navy.
Being a nurse is a commendable career choice that
few can do. Now imagine the job satisfaction and
honor that comes with being a nurse and Naval
Officer! If you would like to meet with Navy
nurses or tour our hospitals, contact HMC Joe
Bender at 210 340-0592 or Benderj_at_cnrc.navy.mil.
