The Purpose of Terry Fox Run
  • To raise money and awareness for cancer research
  • One mile at a time, one dollar from a person
  • All funds raised in the name of Terry Fox to be
    used strictly for cancer research

HISTORY
  • Terry Fox was diagnosed with cancer when he was
    18 years old
  • He started his run to raise money and awareness
    of cancer research on April 12, 1980 in St.
    Johns, Newfoundland.
  • Terry ran 42 km (26 miles) every day for 143 days
  • Terry was forced to stop his run in Thunder Bay,
    ON because of medical conditions
  • Terry Fox died of cancer on June 1981 at age 22.

  • 24.17 million was raised by February 1981
  • The Terry Fox Run became an independent Trust in
    May 1988
  • 6,600 Run sites organized around the world
  • Over 2 million volunteers participate every year
  • Over 400 million has been raised worldwide in

IMPORTANT TO KNOW
  • The Terry Fox Run is an all inclusive and
    family-oriented event that cannot be organized as
    a competition
  • There is no entry fee. All participants are
    allowed to make voluntary contributions
  • A Certificate of Appreciation and an electronic
    tax receipt is given to participants

  • 2. Raise Money for Cancer Research
  • Collect on-line donations using the Terry Fox Run
    website. Send an email to your friends, family
    members, co-workers and other acquaintances about
    the event. Theres a template available online.
  • Download Your Pledge Form to collect donations
    in-person.
