7MATERIALS
- 1/4 teaspoon of wheat germ
- 6 ml hot water (55- 60o C)
- 0.5 ml dish wash detergent
- 4.0 ml of alcohol
- Test tube
- Pipette
- Dropper
- Swab
8PROCEDURE
1) Used the pipette to transfer 5ml of hot water
from the beaker into the tube with the wheat germ
2) Use the handle of the swab to stir the water
into the tube for 3 min.
93) Add 20 drops of detergent to the wheat germ
water mixture
4) Use the back of the swab to gently stir in the
detergent into the wheat-water mixture for 5
minutes
105) Use the pipette to measure 4ml of alcohol
from the glass bottle
6) Carefully, add alcohol along the sides of the
tube
7) Wait 5 min. for the DNA to rise to the alcohol
layer

8) DNA will appear as a whitish slime just
underneath the clear alcohol layer

one of us will help you to transfer a portion of
the DNA into a small microfuge tube
