Assumptions of the Problem Domain
  • Continuous queries are more relevant to mobile
applications because answers become obsolete in a
    short period of time
  • Continuous queries introduce new problems in the
query processing because the movement of any
involved object could change the query answer1
  • Geographical queries will know a reasonable
    radius to achieve their answer

9
Queries I Want to Make
  • Scenario Returning to Los Angeles from San Diego
    on Saturday
  • Assets
  • Vehicle
  • Palm Treo (no charger)

10
Queries I Want to Make
  • Show me the nearest gas station along my route
  • Is range set to fuel available?
  • Generally, I have a strong preference to gas
stations in front of me, unless there are none
within the total range of fuel available
  • How does this perform in low density agent
environments? (e.g. I-70 in central PA at
    1230am)
  • Wouldnt this be a static answer? Not sure I
care about dynamic nature of answer especially
    after I refuel

11
Queries I Want to Make
  • Show me the nearest restroom along my path of
    travel
  • How is range (in miles) set?
  • In this case, bathrooms behind me may or may not
be important depends on my sense of urgency
  • Again, seems to be a static answer (not sure Id
have to go to the rest room too often to really
    need the answer continually updated)

12
Queries I Want to Make
  • What is the traffic along my path of travel?
  • This is a dynamic answer
  • Not at all interested in traffic behind me
  • I may interested in traffic along alternate
routes, if there is sufficiently bad traffic
    along my route of travel
  • Still cant figure out how to set a range? Would
I use rangedistance to my destination or even
    rangedistance through suspected bad traffic?

13
Queries I Want to Make
  • These queries are similar to queries posed by the
    authors on their webpage
  • However, it is unclear how their proposed
solution helps me actually answer these queries
  • Actual Solutions Used
  • Gas watch road signs
  • Bathroom go to gas station (road signs)
  • Traffic load static web page from sigalert.com
