1
B hadron decays to open charm production in
B-factories
The 7th International Conference on Hyperons,
Charm And Beauty Hadrons, BEACH 2006, 2-8 July,
Lancaster
  • A.Bozek
  • IFJ Kraków
  • on behalf of the Belle Collaboration

B decays to open charm covers huge varieties of
physics subjects starting from determination of
CKM matrix parameters eg. D()h0 for cos(2b/2F1)
, DD- for sin(2b/2F1), DK for F3/g (most
promising Dalitz analysis but also GLW or ADS),
semileptonic decays (Vcb) All presented in
different talks, still a lot of subjects remain.
Eg. Charm spectroscopy (B remain a clean
framework for new particles), B ? D X and B ? D X
branching fractions, QCD test framework
Subjective and not complete sample of results

Charmed-strange Mesons
BABAR 91 fb-1 PRL 90, 242001 (2003)
CLEO 13.5 fb-1 PRD 68, 032002 (2003)
Belle 124M BB PRL 91, 262002 (2003)
  • DsJ(2317) and DsJ(2460) first
  • observed by BABAR and CLEO
    in cc continuum events, and
    by Belle in B-decay
  • Both masses unexpectedly low
  • below DK and DK threshold, respectively
  • Only isospin-violating or
  • electromagnetic decays kinematically allowed
  • ? narrow widths
  • Decay pattern and decay angular distributions
consistent with interpretation as P-wave cs
    mesons
  • with JP0 and JP1, respectively

More Studies of DsJ(2317) and DsJ(2460)
Hep-ex/0605035
First measurement of absolute BFs
Look for resonance structure in B recoil
Combine with previous measurements of partial
rates to obtain absolute BFs
0.70 - 0.15 (Unknown where other .30.15 goes)
8
More Studies of DsJ(2317) and DsJ(2460)
Pattern for DsJK does not extend to the DsJD
decays, with factor of 10 differences
9
Phys.Rev. D71 (2005) 091104
Partial reconstruction ( avoiding Ds subdecay
uncertainties)
Soft foton reconstruction crucial (p0 veto,
cluster shape selections)
10
Phys.Rev. D71 (2005) 091104
Full reconstruction ( Ds partial fraction
dependent)
Cleaner sample photon selection relaxed
Ratio of full/partial rec.
11
Flavor tagged charm production in B decays
PRD 70, 091106(R)
Full reconstruction of one B in the event and the
charm hadron on the other side allows
flavor-specific charm counting
12
Flavor tagged charm production in B decays
Charm counting in 2-d likelihood fit (mES,
charmed hadron mass)
