Title: KOPIO Detector Simulation

1
KOPIO Detector Simulation
  • L. Littenberg
  • 10 Jan 2005

2
The Challenges
  • Issues similar to those of E787/949
  • Usual HEP simulation programs inadequate at low
    energy
  • Some necessary information not available (e.g.
    low energy hadron-nuclear cross-sections)
  • Very low BR makes some desirable simulations
    impractically time-consuming
  • Design not finalized (need iteration with
    engineers)

3
Addressing the issues
  • Low energy problems
  • Test correct
  • Be alert for, diagnose, and remedy anomalies
  • Missing information
  • Make bottom line measurements
  • Do custom analysis of E949 data
  • Computing time
  • Exploit symmetries shortcuts
  • Use GEANT FLUKA measurements as input of
    FastMC

4
Systems Simulated
  • Everything upstream of the decay tank discussed
    in the AGS/beam talk
  • Calorimeter
  • Preradiator
  • Charged particle vetoes
  • Shashlyk-based BV
  • Plate geometry photon vetoes
  • Beam catcher veto
  • Trigger

5
KOPIO Detector
6
Overall GEANT MC
  • Slide of its character (e.g. GEANT 3.21 w. GCALOR
or whatever, maintained in CVS, etc.) and
    capabilities
  • Slide of improvements over the program as it
comes out of the box, e.g.
  • Restoration of neutron-nuclear scattering in
    GCALOR
  • Fix to K-nuclear interactions
  • Slide listing studies done with it (not sure this
    is needed)
  • Slide of what remains to be done
  • GEANT pix of signal and background events

7
Calorimeter
8
Calorimeter simulation
  • Flow chart-type slide showing simulation going
all the way up to the electronics
  • Slide listing beam cosmic ray tests
  • Slide showing agreement of resolution, linearity,
    timing, etc. between data simulation
  • Slide showing results of inefficiency test
  • Slide showing whats left to be done (if anything)

9
Preradiator
10
Preradiator simulation
  • Slide showing details of current version,
possible GEANT drawing of section of prerad (if
    available)
  • Slide of GEANT4 work
  • Slide of NSLS angle measurement setup results
  • Slide of simulations matching NSLS data and
    extrapolation to current design
  • Slide of any scintillator tests that have been
matched by simulation (does such work exist?)
  • Slide of simulations of prerad calorimeter
  • Slide of what is left to be done.

11
Charged Particle Veto
12
CPV simulation
  • Slide on inefficiency tests
  • Should also show Andries extrapolation
  • Slide about GEANT matching to this
  • Slide on counter tests
  • Slide on Nicolos KOPICS program
  • Comparison with tests downstairs
  • Slide what is left to do.

13
Photon Vetoes
14
Photon Veto Simulation
  • GEANT pix of some PV
  • Tests on shashlyk prototypes?
  • Tests on bar prototypes
  • Slide of comparison of data and MC?
  • Slide(s) of inefficiency results from E949
  • Slide(s) of other inefficiency measurements (e.g.
    Japanese measurements)
  • Slide(s) of FLUKA or other MC
  • Slide of what is still to be done.

15
Beam catcher photon veto
16
Catcher Simulation
  • GEANT picture of catcher
  • Slides of various beam tests of modules
  • Slides of bench tests
  • Slides of data/MC matching
  • Input to FastMC
  • Slide of whats left to do

17
Trigger Simulation
  • Should we bring this up at all?
  • If so, what to use?
  • Ancient work for TDR?
  • Simulation of now obsolete prototypes?
  • Ermanno work, which?
  • Georges work?
  • ?

18
Conclusion
  • Will depend on what I get
