There are three ingredients to the passé composé

1. The person or pronoun (je, tu, il elle, nous,
   vous, ils/elles
2. The part of the helper/auxiliary verb AVOIR (or
   ÊTRE in a few cases).
3. The past participle (did, ate, drank, bought)

For most verbs, the helper/auxiliary verb is
AVOIR. To use the past tense accurately, learn it
by heart!

Building phrases in the passé composé
Remember, there are three ingredients to the
passé composé.
1. The subject ( je, tu, il, nous etc)
2. An auxiliary, or helping verb either avoir
or être
3. The past participle Knock off the infinitive
ending and add the past participle ending.
