The Daffodils William Wordsworth I wander lonely
as a cloud That floats on high oer vales and
hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of
golden daffodils Beside the lake, beneath the
trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Teacher's Prayer
I want to teach my students how to live this life
on earth,To face its struggle and its strife(??)
and improve their worth. Not just the lesson in a
book or how the rivers flow,But how to choose
the proper path wherever they may go.To
understand eternal truth and know the right from
wrong,And gather all the beauty of a flower and
a song. For if I help the world to grow in wisdom
and in grace ,Then, I shall feel that I have won
and I have filled my place. And so I ask my
guidance, God, that I may do my part,For
character and confidence and happiness of heart.

Life is beauty, admire it. Life is bliss, taste
it. Life is a dream, realize it. Life is a
challenge, meet it. Life is a duty, complete
it.Life is a game, play it. Life is a promise,
fulfill it. Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it. Life is a struggle,
accept it. Life is a tragedy, confront it. Life
is an adventure, dare it.Life is luck, make it.

is life, fight for it.

Fire and Ice Robert Frost Some say the
world will end in fire, Some say in ice.
From what Ive tasted of
desire, I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice, I
think I know enough of hate To know that of
for destruction ice Is also great
and would suffice.

A rhyme is a repetition of identical or similar

rhymed words. If two words or lines of poetry
rhyme, they end with the same sound, for example
hop and pop. A rhythm is a regular Repeated
pattern of sounds or movements.

can we get from poems?
1. Poems bring passion (??)to our life.
2. Poems help us to understand life, virtues,
beauty and romance.
3. Poems make us know we are here and that we can
make our life and the world more colorful and
beautiful!
28
Reading task on P 52
What does each poem make you feel or think about?
The first poem makes me think of a picture in
which a poet wakes up in a very bright spring
morning with birds singing in the trees, but the
beautiful morning reminds the poet of the
blossoms which might have been broken by the
night storm.
29
The second poem makes me think of the following
thingsa cat eating fish a hungry boy making a
washa boy running to the end of the road a
driver taking the next turna young man who
loves sea a beautiful girl looking at the poet
a seal diving into the sea the poet falling into
sleep.
30
The third poem makes me feel the passion between
the lovers.
The fourth poem makes me think of a beautiful
sun- -shine day and a lovely pair singing
cheerfully and calmly. The atmosphere makes me
feel happy and relaxed.
The fifth poem makes me think of my father or an
old man.
31
Sample poems for reference
Five Fat Peas (a nursery rhyme)
Five fat peas in a pea pod pressed One grew, two
grew, so did all the rest They grew and grew And
did not stop, Until one day The pod went POP
32
Trees (a haiku poem)
Green every spring Bright orange in autumn Bare
in winter
Coming Home ( a Tang poem)
I left home young and not till old do I come
back, My accent is unchanged, my hair no longer
black. The children dont know me,whom I meet on
the way Where do you come from, revered sir?they
smile and say.
33
Using language on P15 Part 3

A parent (father/mother) speaking to a young
adult child ( son or daughter).
ReasonsMany of the phrases imply that the
speaker is an older person. For example, Ive
saved the summer and Ive saved some sunlight
.When the speaker says till you are olderhe/she
is implying that he/she is much older than the
young person( that is, till you are older like
me)..
34
The parent also says that although he /she is
older , he/ she does not answer the answers to
lifes questions (I know no answers to help you
on your way / if you have a need for love, Ill
give you all I own.) We know the son is an adult
because the speaker refers to the time when you
were but nineteen
35
Translation on P 51 Part 4
1.If we hadnt run out of sugar, I wouldnt have
gone to the shops.
2.If Liu Sijia hadnt gone to university, she
wouldnt have moved to thousands of kilometres
away from her parents.
3.Hell prepare for you a special drink that is
made up of fresh fruit juice, yoghurt and eggs.
36
4.If you had kept your eyes on her her, you
wouldnt have lost her in the crowd.
5.Youll get better more quickly if you take it
easy for a while.
6.If Emily hadnt teased that cat, it would not
have knocked over that beautiful vase.
37
Sample translation of Tang poems
COMING HOME
I left home young , I return old. Speaking as
then, but with hair grow thin And my children
,meeting me,do not know me. They smile and say
Stranger , where do you come from?
38
IN THE QUITE NIGHT
So bright a gleam on the foot of my bed--- Could
there have been a frost already? Lifting myself
to look, I found it was moonlight. Sinkingback
again,I thought suddenlyof home.
.
39
ON THE MOUNTAIN HOLIDAY
All alone in a foreign land. Im twice as
homesick on this day, When brothers carry dogwood
up the mountain, Each of them a branch and my
branch missing
40
A Perfect Day
41
A Perfect Day
When you come to the end of a
perfect day, And you sit alone
with your thought, While the
chimes ring out with a carol gay
For the joy that the day has brought,
Do you think what the end of a perfect day
Can mean to a tired heart,
When the sun goes down with a flaming ray,
And the dear friends have to
part? Well, this is the end of a
perfect day, Near the end of a
journey too But it leaves a
thought that is big and strong,
With a wish that is kind and true.
For memory has painted this perfect day,
With colours that never fade,
And we find at the end of a perfect day,
The soul of a friend weve made.
