Software you will need

• CAC Reader Drivers (reader talks to computer)
• ActivClient (card talks to Windows)
• PureEdge (to view DA/DoD Forms)
• Approve-it (to sign forms, Office products and
  Adobe)
• All software is located on AKO, or through
  MilitaryCAC.com

YOU MUST BE AN ADMINISTRATOR ON YOUR MACHINE
TO DO THIS. VISTA HAS A COUPLE DIFFERENT STEPS
BUT ALL SOFTWARE IS THE SAME

Do you have Microsoft Office?

• If you do, make sure you have opened Microsoft
  Word and Excel at least once.

Through AKO

• Log into AKO at https//www.us.army.mil
• Click on Quick Links
• Go to CAC
• Click CAC Resource Center
• Or https//www.us.army.mil/suite/page/241504

Through MilitaryCAC.com

• Visit https//MilitaryCAC.com
• Download the software
• from Installation Steps or install
• through the steps

Install CAC Reader

• Plug in your CAC Reader into a USB port on your
  Computer
• You may get something that looks like this
• Click No, Next, Click Install From A Specific
  Location,
  then Next
• Check the box that says Include this location in
  the Search, Click
  Browse and find the location
  you downloaded the drivers to and
  click Okay,
  Click Next and the driver will install.

Install DoD Certificates

• Download the DoD Certificates from
  https//MilitaryCAC.com/dodcerts.htm
• Double Click on InstallRoot_3.12A, Click Run, a
  Black box will show up and disappear, this task
  is complete (In Vista you will get a message that
  the file might not have installed correctly. 
  Select "This program installed correctly."

Install Activclient
No CAC Inserted
CAC Inserted

• Locate your download of ActivClient. Right
  Click, select Extract All on the zip file. Once
  extracted read below
• Double click Start Icon, Click Run, Click Quick
  Install, Make sure to install with all default
  settings and then click Finish. You should see a
  CAC Reader with a Red X in your system tray.
• YOU CAN NOW LOG IN TO AKO WITH YOUR CAC

Installing PureEdge

• Find location of PureEdge program download.
• Double Click on PEViewer65DODJ12 File
• Select Run, Yes, and click on all defaults during
  PureEdge Install. Click Finish.
• PureEdge should now be installed and accessed in
  Start, All Programs, Pure Edge Viewer 6.5

Installing Approve-It

• Locate your download of Approve-It, you will have
  to unzip the files before installing. If you
  dont, you will be prompted for a serial number
• Double Click on AGMInst (NOT THE SETUP FILE) You
  will be prompted for a Serial number if you do.
• Approve-It will install itself on your computer.
• Wait until the install window goes away and
  Restart your computer.
• Once restarted, visit https//militarycac.com/fi
  les/a3161.xfdl to verify you can sign the form.
