What is CERMI?

• Comité Español de Representantes de Personas con
  Discapacidad is an organized civil movement in
  Spain
• Created in 1997 by organizations of people with
  disabilities cohesion and unity
• Representing 3.8 M pwd , 8.5 of the Spanish
  population, still suffering lack of citizenship
  and equal opportunities
• 34 members, national platforms regional
  organizations.
• More than 5.000 entities.

  PWD rights reports and proposals.
• Defend PWD rights reporting discrimination
• Promote non discrimination through knowledge

  raising awareness about HHRR of pwd.

The New Convention

• The disability organizations working since 2001
• Approval of the new Convention the 13th of
  December 2006
• Written agreement signed by the State parties.
• Ruled by the International Law
• It has to be ratified by each country to be
  implemented in the different states.
• Spain ratifies the International Treaty on the
  3rd of December 2007 and becomes into force on
  the 3rd of May 2008.
