Laboratory safety rules 1
  1. Proper clothings are required for admittance to
    the labs.
  2. Long hair and loose clothing must be confined or
    tied back.
  3. Visitors are not allowed in the labs. Only
    instructors, Technical Assistants, stockroom
personnel, students in the scheduled section, and
students with permission to conduct makeup
    experiments are allowed.
  4. Know the locations of fire alarms, fire
    extinguishers, chemical fume hoods, safety
    showers, and emergency eye washes.
  5. Notify your T.A. immediately of any injury,
    spill, fire, or explosion.
  6. Keep your lab space clean and organized. Books,
backpacks, jackets, etc. are not allowed in areas
    where chemicals are used.
  7. NEVER leave an ongoing experiment unattended.
  8. Do not taste anything. If instructed to smell a
chemical, do so by carefully fanning the top of
test tube or bottle so that a little of the vapor
    is directed towards your nose.
  9. Never remove chemicals from the labs or
    stockrooms without proper authorization.
  10. Unauthorized experiments, work, and preparations
are not allowed! Know and follow the specified
    procedures for each experiment.

Laboratory safety rules 2
  1. Wash your hands and arms with soap and water
before you leave the lab - even if you have been
    wearing gloves.
  2. Always know the hazards and physical and chemical
properties of the materials used. Read labels
    carefully.
  3. Label all containers to avoid errors.
  4. Try to dispense only what will be needed. Share
any excess. Do not waste chemicals. Dispose of
excess chemicals in appropriate waste containers.
  5. All glassware and tools must be washed after use.
  6. Return equipment, chemicals, aprons, and
protective glasses to their designated locations.
  7. Dispose of all waste in an appropriate manner.
    Read waste container labels carefully.
  8. Do not use flames in the labs unless specifically
    instructed to do so.
  9. Wear gloves when appropriate, following proper
    procedures for choosing glove type.
  10. Treat every chemical as if it were hazardous!
  11. Before leaving the laboratory, ensure that gas
lines and water faucets are shut off.
