What is the mission of a Church School?
8
What is the mission ofA Church School?
It is, and must be, because that engagement with
children and young people in schools will, in the
words of the late Lord Runcie when he was
Archbishop of Canterbury, enable the Church to
  • Nourish those of the faith
  • Encourage those of other faiths
  • Challenge those who have no faith.

9
When you were appointed Headteacher . . . .
your care free days were over. When you were
appointed Headteacher . . . . everything that
followed became a RESPONSIBILITY
10
  • Schools offer churches unparalleled opportunities
    for contact with
  • children
  • teachers
  • support staff
  • families and
  • other adults within the community.

11
When the parish community as a whole sees the
school as a shared responsibility then church and
school often feel far more a single community
with a better chance of the relationship between
school and parish really thriving.
12
Where the school and parish links are almost
entirely focused on THE HEADTEACHER
INCUMBENT, and school work simply becomes one of
their duties, there is limited scope for
developing links. The Way Ahead, Dearing
